I just picked up a miller maxstar 152 with a snap start including a torch and snapstart for 600 bucks. This is my first tig welder. When I tried it out it seemed to start an arc no problem.I was using it tonight hooked everything up and turned it on. Attached the ground clamp to a piece of steel and held the electrode close and when I hit the foot pedal, nothing. I don't think it's the torch because it didn't even start to flow gas. I picked the torch up and played with the foot pedal a bit then after several tried I heard the gas start to flow. I then again held it close to the steel and got a perfect arc right away and it held it no problem. When I stopped and tried to start again nothing. It's very intermitten. I never know if when I press the pedal anything will happen or not. There doesn't seem to be any way I can get it to work or not work than any other way. Does this sound like an issue with the foot pedal? I can't see it being a torch problem since the argon doesn't even start to flow all the time. Any ideas or things to try? Hope I didn't just spend 600 bucks on junk. Thanks
Reply:Have you tried welding without the foot pedal
Reply:switch 14 and 14, hf start only, back of snap start 14 not panel, lift arc off if that doesn't work pm me and iwill call you when im near mine its a great machine maybe you just hit a rocker switch as it has to be set up right to work in normal fashion,
Reply:I got it figured out. turned out to be the switch in the foot pedal went bad. |
