hi there I am thinking about making a boom arm for my woodworking shopI want power and dust collection hoses and compressor pointsthe work shop is about 16 foot wide but I would be happy if it swung  to about 12the workshop is about 35 foot long there is a 6 x4 inch rsj half way  along the wall. it is turned the wrong way to the most strength, it is flat against the wall. I would like it articulating if I could so that I can reach things closerhas anyone built something like thisthanks alan

Reply:thanks  Andrew. I think that is a little over kill for what I need. I am hoping to only loose about 6-8 inchs of head height
Reply:I'd love to see what you come up with.  I've been tossing around the idea of making a small boom hoist (only about 8 feet high off the ground and with a swing of about 5 to 6 feet) to lift the heavier chucks up to my lathe spindle.  Heaviest chuck I have is around 100lbs, but would probably build it to lift 500 since I know I'll use it for something heavier at some point.  My initial plan was to cut a 2x2 section out of the floor, dig down and pour a 2x2x2 block of reinforced concrete as the footer to mount a base plate to for the vertical post.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
