Anyone made a Murphy bed?

This one is pretty out of left field for a metal working forum but I figured I would give it a shot.I need to build one of these for a firehouse and the DIY kits are $400 for instructions, some hinges and air springs. Don't see why I can't just fabricate all the parts myself but I need some direction. Reply:I googled " how to build a murphy bed from steel" and plenty of free designs and parts suppliers came up..you have a large choice of reading..Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:My wife built one using the Rockler plans and hardware.  It turned out great.  I wouldn't want to try it without a full set of plans and I think the hardware kit is actually a pretty good value.  The swing down bed is quite heavy and getting the hinge, stop and strut location/angles just right would be important.  There are also some slick details like the fold down legs also operate the latches the hold the bed in the upright location.  I am sure you could build a simpler version, maybe with a cable/pully counterweight instead of the struts, but the Rockler design is sure nice.http://www.rockler.com/vertical-moun...dware-hardware
