V205T, My best Craigslist buy to date

Happy camper today,  Scored a Lincoln V205T in practically new condition including pedal torch and regulator  for $650 and a 2 hr drive each way... they guy had bought it for a HVAC business that never happened.  You just have to be quick on the good deals and hopefully be the first one to call/email on it. holiday weekends are good times for deals and a lot of people looking for the same stuff are away from their computers etc.The only thing missing is the 115 to 230v plug,    Does anyone know if I can just make one using a 6-R50 plug Bottle and torch accessories were not included but I already had those for my Airco which has the same style torch...  Oh the cart was included toonow its time for me to get the rest of my machines sold off. so I can get my garage space back and get to some projects and some TIG practice in on my new machine.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Nice. I have no need of that machine, but I'd have jumped on the deal also for that price. Goes to show there ARE nice quality tigs out there for very good prices if people are willing to be patient and do a bit of driving to get the deals. Reply:"it will not run of a modified sine wave inverter in my truck"Does the V205T turn on, light up but not weld or does it just not turn on at all?About 3 years back, the price of a true sine wave inverter was about double+ the price of a modified sine wave inverter... and their efficiency was considerably lower.  Pay attention to that.I'm likely off on my recall but while the modified sine wave units were pushing 90%+ efficiency, the true sine wave units were only around 65%.You also have to factor in the efficiency of your V205T; it's likely in the 75 to 85% range but... you really should verify that as it may be less with all it's bells & whistles.There's going to a series of power losses from the sine wave inverter and the inverter welder.  For every volt-amp drawn from the vehicle battery, you may only get 1 VA x 0.65 (invert) x 0.8 (welder) = 0.52 VA out for actual welding.e.g. If you hope to stick weld at say 100 amps @ 25 volts, you may need to draw double that (5,000 watts) from the truck battery(ies).  Assuming the truck battery(ies) is/are dragged down to 11 volts, you will asking for 5,000 / 11 = 454 amps from that battery(ies).  On one battery, that ain't going to happen for long!  If you got two 100 amp-hr batteries, pulling 225 amps from each will at least give you some time to weld for an emergency repair.Frankly, for stick welding, you may be better off just to series two batteries and weld at 22 volts - pulls about 120 - 150 amps.  For Tig welding, you could use just one 12 volt battery, a tig torch and gas bottle/regulator/hose.  For MIG, using two batteries and a form of Ready Welder may be the way to go.Another option would be to just buy a plain-jane generator of sufficient output to match the maximum input demand of the V205T.  You know that is going to work.Soutthpaw, before you drop the money for an expensive pure sine wave power inverter, it would sure be nice (and wise) to find one to try before you buy.Last edited by Rick V; 09-04-2011 at 11:17 PM.Reason: spellin errorsRick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet

Reply:OK, sure sounds like the V205T doesn't like your inverter power!My new DC motor powered furnance motor and controller will operate off my inverter but it's circuit-board-light display indicates an error condition.  Likely these modern devices interpret the power inverter output as 'dirty' power.Too bad... you have a great model power inverter too.
