I'm building a large out door pergola using 4"x8" x 1/4" wall aluminum rectangular tube. I tig welded the prefab beams but for the sake of time I rented a MM 350P with a XR-A push pull gun for site installation. I'm running 5653, .035 wire, Argon at 20cfm. The machine settings are gun = XR-A......wire = alm 5.. 0.35........process = mig......volts =21.......wfs = 700, (these settings have produced the best results so far. To produce a decent bead, I have to maintain a very fast travel speed, other wise the bead piles up with poor wetting and lots of smut. I attempted to set up the machine in pulse mig mode with no success. I'm welding in flat, vertical, and overhead positions, beveled but joints and T joints. Can anyone offer experienced advice on the proper set up of the 350P for my process? Thanks!Miller TrailBlazer 251Miller HF-250-1Miller MaxStar 150 STLHyperTherm PowerMax 380 plasmaLincoln PowerMig 180Millermatic 252Miller Diversion 180

Reply:You work get lots of Smut because of 5356 wire and I believe it's the magnesium in it that does it. You are pushing the gun right?Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:I did read the idiots guide chart but was an idiot as it does not list voltage settings, just wfs. After just now watching a few videos on the Miller site, apparently the machine will auto set the voltage to determined wfs. Reply:Basically, I want to tune the 350P to a controllable travel speed that allows good puddle manipulation and wet in without the bead pile up, comparable to my MM252, migging steel.Miller TrailBlazer 251Miller HF-250-1Miller MaxStar 150 STLHyperTherm PowerMax 380 plasmaLincoln PowerMig 180Millermatic 252Miller Diversion 180
Reply:sounds about right for what your doing id add more argon i like to run 50cfh with a 5/8th nozzle and if you can switch to 047 wire. with that setup id be at 27.5 volts pushing 600 wire. And alu mig is fast you can do ft a min with alu instead of inch a min with steelHigh Octane Welding
