I had a longevity 250mp that has a pulse feature and from what I could tell the pulsing kept me from burning through as easily and certainly made my welds look much better (of course now that I'm selling it the dampness of my shop may have fried a board errr!). Now on to the Miller xmt with a pendant and when I first tried it I thought something was wrong since it was 'spraying' the weld. I have no experience with spray arc and it was set wrong so it burned up to the tip. With a little monkeying around I got it to work for me, but I need about 600 yrs of practice.Anyway, it surprised me that what gets marketed as pulse may not be the same thing. The Longevity definitely worked like a short circuit arc (unless it was broken when I got it) and the Miller is definitely a spray. I should have realized how the Miller worked when I briefly glanced at the manual (it clearly shows a spray). I guess since arc welders have been around forever and are an integral part of most manufacturing, I would assume that there would be lots of standardization in functions. It looks like everyone still has a different take on how a welder should work. Perhaps that's why folks get pigeon holed into brands - switching forces a guy to relearn a new variation on a process.Maybe this is all common and I should sign my post "Captain Obvious" because I say things everyone knows.

Reply:The Longevity pulsed (or at least it sounded like it) and I welded short circuit as usual. I welded just like I did with the lincoln sp 200. With the miller pendant it sprays the metal on to the weld like painting. The welding wire forms a spray before it gets to the weld. I just thought pulse weldering would be the same welding process from different manufacturers

Reply:I recognized I wasn't welding in short circuit with the miller immediately - can't miss it. The longevity was set to pulse and even double pulse and it buzzed more or less like I expected a pulse, but it was definitely short circuit transfer. It could have been broken also, but I did watch a YT video showing a longevity welder running in pulse and it looked like short circuit to me. How did the powcon pulsers work? Was that a spray transfer machine? My whole point is that just because it says pulse doesn't mean I can expect any 2 brands to work the same. thanks
Reply:I could be wrong.
Reply:Every welder is differnt, some that can spray transfer can not pulse. Some that can spray transfer, can also pulse in spray. Others will only pulse in short circuit but not in spray transfer. It is all in how the welder was made.www.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo.
