This is my first attempt at yard art...I decided a year ago to try my hand at welding and bought a mig pac 140.  Wish I would have done this years ago.  I built the dragon entirely from flat bar 3/4", 1", 1 1/2", 2", 3" x 1/8" and 6" x 3/16" for the firebox.  I used a bit of 3/4" pipe schedule 40 cut in half for the top of the nose.  The body and tail were almost made entirely of 2".  Any rounded flat bar was bent in a bench vise.
Reply:Looks fantastic! Any pics of it in action?
Reply:not yet...just got it finished today...just had time to take it out and take a picture before dark

Reply:Fire!!!!!!!!Now I lay me down to sleep, by the bed a Colt I do keep.Should I wake and find you inside, a coroner van is your next ride.
Reply:Lit a fire in it today for the first time...the flames at one point came past the nose a couple of inches...works good...should look good at night...will roast a weenie next time!!

Reply:Judging by all the snow, I'd say his pilot light went out!  Hobart cutting/welding torch.MM252, and nothing else.  My first welder.  Buy once, cry once....but I really would like a nice 50/60A circuit to run it at full strength.A bunch of ideas, and not enough time and money to bring them to life.
Reply:Noticing the medieval facade in the last pic of post 7. Is this a theme around the house? Renaissance festivals? Just curious..-Niche
Reply:That is awesome!
Reply:No renaissance festival...my wife does a huge Halloween display and because we put up plywood on the outside of our deck to keep the snow off in the winter she painted it in a castle theme to go with her Halloween display The dragon I made will be the highlight this year

Reply:Just the picture...the teeth don't glow orange...really happy with how he turned out
Reply:The wife put some decent pics of fire coming out of his mouth last night...Dean.
Reply:I wonder if you could put an air line in the bottom of the firebox and control the air line remotely with a ball valve? Maybe that would make it puff the flames up like the blower on a forge? That's a really impressive dragon.
Reply:I think you are probably right.
Reply:What I meant to say was...I think you are probably right..about the air line and I will try that if I have trouble with the flame...but right now just stoking the fire regularly seems to be doing the trick...thanks for the thought I'll keep it in mind
Reply:An old hair dryer used as a blower would produce enough air to keep that fire hot, just have to plump it in such a way so the dryer does not melt.Measure with a micrometre, mark with chalk,  cut with a torch.Never force anything...just get a bigger hammer.RoyOld Airco buzz box approx 1974Lincoln mig pack 15Lincoln 175 square wave1954 9" south bend lathe
Reply:WOW! Very very cool! I thought it was just a metal sculpture at first then I saw the fire!
Reply:I cut another air vent, and made 2 door latches....works really good now.
Reply:Lit the dragon with all 3 pieces set up

Reply:Had to do some more welding to keep the head down when burning hot....anchored it and put a concrete block in the base of the head to build the fire on so the steel plate underneath didn't get so hot......works good now!
