I am looking at two AC/DC Miller Welders one is a DialArc(DA) and the other is a Thunderbolt(TB). The TB is new and the DA is used but good working condition.  My question is. For a backyard welder would I ever notice a difference in weld quality between the two welders? The DA is actually less money, but weighs about 400lbs and would take up alot more space in my shop. Please let me know your thoughts.ThanksGreg
Reply:Both are good machines.  Although, the DialArc is better and much more machine than the Thunderbolt.  It is built heavier for longer duty cycles, meaning day in and day out welding.  They were used a lot by ship building companies, technical colleges, and fab shops because of their staying power and capabilities.  I know it is bigger and not as portable as the TB, but for the same money, if I were buying, I would go with the DialArc.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:I have owned an early Thunderbolt that was made for Airco.  I have not used the Dial Arc but I own an early Miller Industrial welder.  The industrial machine will out last the lighter duty one.  I would go with the Dial Arc if I had help loading and unloading.
