Ok putting my order in for material mon. Let me know what you think of this build. A hair lighter than last time.Aluminumsills and crossmembers 4 in structural channel. 14 in spacing on center for cross members. 6 in structural channel outside frame. all T6 6601. 3/16 treadbright 3003, The T6 is twice the price. The last 16 in will be 1/2 steel plate for a work area and mount for my vice and small jib, plus a pull out table from beneath the frame rails out the back. Headache rack will be 6in channel or maybe 4. I am doing a material rack down the middle frame line that will be removable not sure if I will do it in 2x3 T6 tubing or steal.( I like strongbacks design). will have stake pockets the last 5 feet. will prob mount the welder pipeliner style but all the way to the drivers side instead of centered. Pretty basic but I can always change it up later.I am kinda worried about the flex differences in the steel work area and the aluminum frame, any thought? Thanks open to any suggestions. Ideally I would like to do steel and skirted but its just not feasable for what I have and no place to sandblast. Also every one on this island is rusted
Reply:What do u mean by steel and skirted? Im going to be hot dip galvinizing my utility trailer, then a ppg epoxy primer urethane topcoat paint. Then attaching my aluminum duamond plate deck to the steel.  Hawauii is obviously different though. Is it really 800 dollars dor a 300 cu feet aron fill?Dynasty 200DX   (2014)Millermatic 211 (2015)Optrel 864   (2014)Smith Medium duty MBA 30510 (Xmas 2014)Tennsmith 16ga 4ft finger brake (2015)Trailblazer 325 EFI and excel Thermal dynamics Cutmaster 82Miller maxtron 450
Reply:Check out to see if u got any hot dip galvinizers in ur area. It wont rust then. And u wont have any galvinic corossion issues attaching aluminum directly to the steel. I would have needed my trailer sandblasted before i paint. And i was looking at about 150-250 just to get that done. Looking at 42 cents a lb for my double dip on my trailer. No sandblast needed cuz the acid dip removes millscale and rust.   So about 300lbs roughly for my dip.   Cant beat that. But Hi things are way fifferentDynasty 200DX   (2014)Millermatic 211 (2015)Optrel 864   (2014)Smith Medium duty MBA 30510 (Xmas 2014)Tennsmith 16ga 4ft finger brake (2015)Trailblazer 325 EFI and excel Thermal dynamics Cutmaster 82Miller maxtron 450
Reply:And to clairify for those not knowing what i mean double dip. my trailer will be too wide for the galvinizers tank so i need a dip on each side my trailer. 38c a lb for single dip within their tanks dimentionsDynasty 200DX   (2014)Millermatic 211 (2015)Optrel 864   (2014)Smith Medium duty MBA 30510 (Xmas 2014)Tennsmith 16ga 4ft finger brake (2015)Trailblazer 325 EFI and excel Thermal dynamics Cutmaster 82Miller maxtron 450
Reply:Idealy I would of just done it in steel. Maui is like a third worl country in some aspects there is no place to galv dip a bed. By skirted I mean broke peices of steel to mimick the side of the truck like a pipeliners rig.
Reply:and yes that is our price for argon, its nuts we are getting together and ordering like 20 bottles from the mainland to split up between a few shops.
Reply:There will be significant problems with putting a thick sheet on a small section whether it's steel or aluminum. How did you figure to attatch the plate to the frame? One thing is certain, a 1/2" plate won't flex much and so you will need to plan for that in your structure.Yeah, I know, but it'll be ok!Lincoln Square wave 255Miller Vintage mig30a spoolgunThermal Dynamics Pacmaster 100xl plasmaSmith mc torchEllis 1600 band saw
Reply:A couple things came to mind for me on the 1/2" sheet. One is if you haven't already I would consider aluminum plate as that will eliminate the issues of corrosion, both of the steel and oxidation of the aluminum from contact with the steel. Second that will give lots of options for attatching it that you just won't have with steel. Putting that thick of a sheet on a small section of bed will be very much like adding a torque tube to the structure and will need to be planed for similarly.Yeah, I know, but it'll be ok!Lincoln Square wave 255Miller Vintage mig30a spoolgunThermal Dynamics Pacmaster 100xl plasmaSmith mc torchEllis 1600 band saw
Reply:I miss type its 1/4 in plate. I was going to bring a support up from the frame to weld a few stitch welds then through bolt the outside edge with stainless steel hardware and use a thin peice of rubber.
