I did a search but didn't see any previous type subject post. I apologize if this was posted before.I'll start. Here's my compressor.  It's a Powerex, a division of CH.  It's a medical quality type compressor, 5hp - 27amp, 1725 rpm motor, single stage - 2 cylinder pump.  It puts out 16cfm @ 90 psi, pump spins at 1000 rpm.  It has a pilot valve that disengages the pump and lets the motor free-spin for continuous operation. It's surprisinly quite.  At 1' distance I measured it @ 73db.  It takes just at 4 minutes to pump from empty to 145 psi. Here's a photo of my Frankenstien copper radiator cooling system.  Let's see yours.Trublue
Reply:Just a little info on your air compressor - #1 don't have pilot valve ( pilot valves are used to unload the air pressure between discharge valve and check valve in tank when pumpis shut down so it doesn't try to start under load ) this was the old style system - what you have is an unloading pressure switch which does the same thing  #2 the pump does not dis-engage - it keeps pumping any time it is on but the littlealumumin valve with the thum-screw is known as a discharge unloader which lets thecompressed air vent out instead of going in tank when it reaches its set pressureusually 5 psi below pressure switch - if you turn the thum screw clockwise till itstops the pressure switch will now turn unit on and off -  As far as your tubeing artercooler on wall, i doubt if you will ever run this pump long, enough to see a temp. change in the air from the tank - more than likely created a large water trap. so unless you are takeing your air from the top of this - you may have a water probelm at the end   just my 2¢ worth from a old man thats been around air compressors for 42 yearsany thing from half horse to 100 horse power and 6000 psi natural gas pumps - thanksThe main thing is not to panic or get excited Bobcat 250, X-Treme 12VS,  MM211Meltabo, Milwaukee,Porter Cable,Dewalt,MakitaVictor O/A, Ingersoll-RandEvolution Rage2, 40 amp PlasmaLincoln 225 AC/DC
Reply:Renagade-I think we may be saying the same thing, but in different contexts.  I did a Google search to make sure I wasn't mis-using the term "pilot valve".  Perhaps "pilot unloader valve" is more appropriate as it does unload the pump at a set pressure, letting the motor continue to spin the pump but not add air to the tank.  But, I'm also pretty sure that when the valve operates it disengages the pump cylinders from stroking.  From what the compressor dealer has told me this is a function of this type of pump.  There is no discernable hiss sound of air pressure escaping when the valve is in bypass mode. When I go home tonight I'll kick her on and see if I'm recalling correctly. As for the piping, a water trap is actually what I'm attempting to achieve.  My thought was that any water vapor in the air will condensate out and drain down to a ball valve.  The piping is all sloped to drain back towards the tank.I have a "barrel blaster" that I use for media blasting.  So the compressor will be cycling on and off for extended durations, which is why I built the piping system.  Trying to get the air as dry as I can to avoid moisture problems with the blasting media.Trublue
Reply:This is my old compressor.
Reply:Nice setups! I purchased a single stage 6hp Sanborn in 1994. I then started restoring old trucks and got into sandblasting. No way was this enough compressor to even THINK about attaching a pressurized blaster unit to it. So, I went to HF and purchased a Campbell Hausfeld 6 hp single stage and then plumbed them together. Now I have 120 gallon capacity, two pumps keeping up the pressure, and now I have no problems doing anything I want to do. At the time, I just couldn't afford a larger compressor.
Reply:VPTThat is cool what and how old is that?  Did you weld the rod or was it like that when you got it.More pics ?
Reply:Here is one mine.  First is a 100 cfm eaton compressor and the 2nd is a my IR 185 high pressure.  Used them both for our sandblasting operation. Looking to add a 250 cfm rotory screw compressor here in the near future. Reply:Got this about 6 months ago, attached a Motor Guard Filter for the Plasma and not in a permanent location to plumb it in yet. Love it can bead blast all day long.
Reply:Here's the Champion in the shop, 5hp - 80gal receiver. Couldn't squeeze it all into one pic.And here is the one for the big jobs. Since I went out of business, I was going to sell it. But, with its age, I'm not going to lose anything by waiting. I'm hoping to need it for some big time arc gouging!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Originally Posted by Stick-manIf you're referring to my post, and pic 2, I think you're asking about that pipe? If so, that is the pipe I have running back to the wall, up and out to the front of the shop.

Reply:I think this is the one I have http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/WIL...T04?Pid=searchIt is supposed to drain when the pressure drops a certain amount. Unfortunately, mine doesn't work. And I waited too long before I hooked it up, so I couldn't return it. Now I just open the ball valve for about ten seconds at least once each day it's used."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Originally Posted by I was asking the question wondering if there were any new not seen before auto tank drains that did not cost 150 plus out here. I have used one made by HF, if taps into the line for the auto on. When it senses a pressure change as the compressor comes on it unloads a valve and dumps moisture every cycle.  Darn thing was only 10 beans, that's the up side the down side is they are not long lasting about two years. However at 10 bucks a pop it is painless, the other thing I like about is it does not require an electrical connection, the compressor is outside.[ATTACH363831[/ATTACH]http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=automatic+compressor+drain+kitGreg

Reply:I picked this up for $150 (!) a couple weeks ago.  Dad offered me a stationary 80 gal, but I don't have the room for that in my garage right now!  This little CH needed some TLC and new fittings and puts out enough air for intermittent impact/ratchet use, but fills tires and runs a little die grinder very well.  Quiet too.
