Two TIG virgins got cherrys popped this afternoon

Neighbor bud of mine that I building mudjeep engine with came over to use my plasma to slice some plate for suspension brackets. He brought case of cold beer so we roll cart and table outside and geter done.  Then, he notices tig machine and asks what it was....This guy has only used tombstone A/C stick and flux mag in his life....I explain it's a small world class tig/stick machine but I ain't had time to tinker with it, but someday I wanted to be able to tig two beer cans together.....anyway, he asks if we could test it so I break out manual and start tweeking not really knowing where to start, but figured A/C HF start, highish  balance and high freq...so set it at 70% balance, 150HZ 25 amps...then set him down and turn on the gas....LOL, outside in the wind.He blowed big hole first arc, so I lowered it to 10 amps.....next thing I know he's got it running pretty decent while I'm reading manual..NO it wasn't no stack a dimes result and he blowed a few more holes, but I'm really starting to fall in love with this HTP rig.The guy is a tig natural.....ain't never picked up a tungsten, and he's maybe 30 minutes away from the beer can trick, providing I let him read the manual and not me....It's a decent manual but they typed it way too fast, and I'm a slow reader, yaknow?Seriously, I'm thinking I'm REALLY going to enjoy this HTP once I make time to play with it.

Reply:HTP's are great machines. I have a 240 HTP MIG for over 10 years. I have also used their TIG. Reply:Originally Posted by wornoutoldwelderI call him Goober, we call his brother Bugger  Ain't no telling what they call me.As far as our selection of cans, we picked the very worst quality of can to experiment on.....Around here, bud lite cans quickly develop a large hole in top and all the beer disappears.....We shoulda used Miller cans because they have proven to be highly resistant to developing holes over time.
