Not branded...whats a fair offerSent from my SCH-S968C using TapatalkHH 190Uniweld TorchesLincoln 225 ac-sMarquette Starjet torches gauges

Reply:Thats what I was thinking. Ty theyvwanted 100. Are the faster than a horizontal bandsaw?Sent from my SCH-S968C using TapatalkHH 190Uniweld TorchesLincoln 225 ac-sMarquette Starjet torches gauges
Reply:Does it have blades with it ??? I would located blades for it first. As for speed of cut , I would say not close to a band saw. I'm pretty sure as the cut is made it returns for the next cut in raised position [  while the band saw is still cutting ] and goes down to continue the cut. .
Reply:Power hacksaws are slower than band saws.Blades are cheaper. Used to be very commonin machine shops, plumbing supply and hardwarestores.Still used by hobbyists that aren't in a hurry and likereciprocating machines(like power hacksaws andshapers). Can't tell much from the picture but it looks a little ratty.Definitely test it . -$100 seems highMiller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:i had a similar saw. you don't see them too often and there's a reason for it. slow and blades are probably expensive. the leftover blades i have were made in germany. they make excellent shop knives though.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:Its not worth the shop space it would take up.  It is worth something as decoration to some interior decorator for an antique theme business somewhere .
Reply:$50 MAX. And only or you REALLY wanted it. Here's mine.. It was free but but needed cleaning up. I made a new motor mount' guards, and stand. They are easy to set up, slow but cut SQUARE.  I ALWAYS  use my horizontal bandsaw. I:
Reply:Ditto that about power hacksaws generally cutting square, whereas bandsaws sometimes don't if not well adjusted with a good fresh blade. A BIG old power hacksaw I used long ago did a beautiful job.  Slow??  I always had enough things to do while I waited.I have a saw like that in the first picture, a Dunlap (Sears) from the late-'40s or early-'50s. Visitors to the shop always want me to cut something, just so they can watch it run.  I also have a twin carbon arc torch, and get the same requests to see that in action. The radio in my shop is a very good mid-'50s Craftsman multi-band, set up so that you can look at all the glowing tubes from one side. Fun for all, yet I don't regard any of these items as toys. By contrast, I have a newish digital VOM  .  .  .  which I detest!  Try to troubleshoot something and the display wants to hunt and hunt for a reading.  The old VOMs with a good D'Arsonval movement and a NEEDLE beat the beep out of the new stuff most of the time. I'm an analog guy in an alien digital world. I've already lived too long, and I prefer the old stuff and the old ways, mostly.Last edited by old jupiter; 06-01-2016 at 11:20 AM.
Reply:I have an old Keller power hacksaw. It has a coolant system which helps keep the blades sharp. FWIW...I did a little modification to it by making another bar which holds the blades to the frame so that I could use a Diablo 12" carbide tipped blade. I did have to also drill another hole in the other end of the blade so it would mount in the hacksaw. I will say it really sped the cuts up. Still not as fast as a bandsaw....But the cuts always are dead on straight. Those Diablo carbide tipped blades are just awesome. They work pretty damned good in a sawzall also. But the smaller 4" and 6" blades seem to work better for me in the sawzall recip saw than the longer blades. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Diablo-DS120...4AAOSwUUdXD9Ar
Reply:Thanks for the link, Tim.  I put off getting a "sawzall" (using the term generically) for years, despite having used someone else's once.  Finally saw and bought a Bosch on sale when I was looking for something else. Still don't need it often, but sometimes it is the best tool in the shop. I'll get a couple of those blades.Similarly, a couple of years ago I saw one of those Dual-Saws, a circular saw with counter-rotating carbide blades (which they used to advertise on television by cutting up a car in ten minutes), on close-out at Lowes, where they hadn't sold well enough. For $110 I took a chance. It gets even less use than the sawzall, but again, sometimes it is the deal-scheneille.http://www.dualsaw.com/products/dual...yer-cs650.html
Reply:I've got a bigger flat belt driven power hacksaw. I used to get blades from Grainger but lately I have been using broken bandsaw blades. (Free, is Free)I set it up and walk away to do something else, when I hear the clutch(auto-stop) kick out, I go retrieve my piece.I paid a $100 for mine 15 years ago. That one is smaller and lighter, I'd go $50.

Reply:Ya gotta like his color coordination, too. And the curvy-legged stool next to his curvy-legged old saw. You guys that have the artist's eye, I envy you!!When I referred to the Dual Saw, I should have mentioned that on the way home from buying it I stopped in a surplus yard and asked if they had anything stainless that I could test it on. I was particularly interested in this capability, which they had advertised, since stainless can be a pain to cut unless you have plasma arc. Well, they were curious too, and started dragging over old restaurant equipment. No problem at all for this saw. The only caution is that it is Chinese-made, and some owners have gotten bad ones, so, buyer beware. So far my only problem came from letting a dumb young man try it, and he tried to go way too fast on irregular shapes and knocked out a couple of the carbide insert teeth. Well, I bought spare blades for when it gets too bad.
