Hi AllIm new hear and too welding, I was looking into getting a multiprocess machine such as a Everlast PowerMTS unit but as I kept doing my research I'm noticing the limitations of each of the processes like the Tig process is unable to start at a lower enough current to weld thinner materials without blowing a hole in the material and they are DC only units which rules out Aluminum Tig unless you want to use a spool gun which I find undesirable so I have changed my thinking and am going to go with an AC/DC Tig machine that will do stick (this will allow me to do my outside repairs and work) 1st (will get a separate mig machine later on) and the unit I'm very interested in is the Everlast PowerTig 210EXT. The 210EXT seems to fit the bill with low current starts on AC and DC for thinner material along with a bunch of other features that I will be able to grow into, does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this unit. Thanks
Reply:Having used all the machines I mention, and being an authorized dealer, I personally recommend the 250ex for the same money. At your level you really won't benefit from the few extra advanced functions of the 210ext and won't miss them. The extra 50amps will be much more useful. In all reality the AHP 200x at less than ½ the price will probably serve your needs very well for years. How thin do you plan to weld. I've welded 26ga aluminum with the AHP. It just sounds like you are getting misleading info as you have no TIG Experience. Folks are welding soda cans and razor blades with the AHP.Last edited by soutthpaw; 06-09-2016 at 08:50 AM.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:SouthPaw,You are missing what he is saying. The 210EXT has more stick capability which is a criteria. It actually has lower amp capability than the 250EX or the ahp. The 250EX only has 40 more amps, not 50. The advanced pulse will compensate for the lower amps anyway in AC. The digital control offers more precise adjustments than the ahp and wider range of adjustment for AC. Even if he is a beginner, it allows plenty of room for him to grow. Yes, they are about the same money roughly, but the 210 does offer much more that he can grow with. The 250EX is not a bad choice, but the mention of the stick capability means that the 210EXT on this alone is a better choice. But the PowerMTS units don't have a problem with low amp starts as far as I am aware. They operate down to 5 amps. When you buy a welder, you are buying a tool box full of tools. Each tool box has different amount of tools. Sure you can use a pair of pliers to take off a nut and may be fine with that tool box, and can get by but when you can buy a tool box full of tools with the right tool to remove the nut, why buy the other one if budget isn't the limiting factor? I have tools in my tool box that I've only used once or twice, but they've paid for themselves when I needed them.Last edited by lugweld; 06-09-2016 at 09:22 AM.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

For example, there's a big difference between repair welding, new part fab/welding, high end exotic metal welding, on site welding, and production welding.I've found my nitch, and have gone through a few welders to get exactly what I want.Pete |
