Hi all. Removed the crank from my '54 short hood in order to get it to a machine shop to get tuned up for new bearings. What has me concerned is the front "bronze?" thrust washer had to be split in half to get the crank out because it was pinned to the side of the block for some strange reason. My question is what is the best way to get another one in it's place when I go to reinstall the crank? I obviously have to pull the gear and little flange off but should I need to pin the washer to the side of the block again?
Reply:OK I'll answer my own question for those that might be interested.Use a puller and pull the crank gear off and the ring behind it will just slide off, then you can pull that ring bushing off and free the crank. allrighty then.
