A few weeks ago I picked up a 5.5 cu ft Gilson mixer for $40. It didn't look like it had ever been used aside from being weathered. The guy even had the manual.  He threw in a seized up motor that he thought was for it. Turned out it was a compressor motor, too big and fast. So I hunted around the shop and found a suitable motor. I then modified a pulley and picked up a belt from Napa. After some oil and grease it was ready to mix. I poured a small slab the other day and discovered it really needed to sit higher for a construction wheelbarrow so I put it up on blocks.I've been moving it around with the forklift but I thought it would be nice to put trailer wheels on it. So I picked up a set of spindles and wheels brand new for super cheap. I bought a set of tires online and mounted them. I was now committed. It took all day but it's ready for paint. It was built from scrap I had laying around. In typical fashion it's likely over built but it has the features I needed. Collapsable tongue for storage. Heavy landing gear for stability. I only towed it to the house, but it appears to track fine at 25 mph.
Reply:Looking at all those 80 pounders, there going to get mighty heavy by the end of the project.  Real nice find and great addition for towing.  Bob
Reply:My friend had one of those small mixers,, and he wanted to do a pretty big project,,What he found was that he could mix the sand and mortar in the mixer,,THEN, scoop up the gravel (a known amount in his bucket) and dump the mixed sand and mortar in the loader bucket, on top of the gravel.A couple swishes with a hoe, and the concrete was finished mixing,, no need to put the gravel through the mixer,,It worked perfectly, and went about 5X times faster than putting the gravel through the mixer.
Reply:Nice job !!
Reply:I am going to plagiarize your trailer set up for my mixer.    I have the same mixer and use the forklift to move it.    That is a great idea.Steve from SoCal now in HutchMiller Dynasty 300DX Coolmate3 Speedway TorchMiller XMT 450 MPa plus with D-74 MPa Plus Miller Bobcat 225 NTHypertherm Powermax 45And a whole bunch of machines

Reply:This is the factory trailer kit. It uses 4.10/3.00-4 wheels. The manual states to limit speed to 25 mph.
Reply:Must be the school lathe, looks like it's been crashed a time, or two

Reply:How does the split bag method work?
Reply:Cut the bag in the middle with a trowel. Grab in the middle and pull up. This will stand up both halves. Split the halves apart with the trowel.I looked on youtube and found a variation using a length of rebar. I'll have to try it.
