I found a old 900x2 on Facebook marketplace for 50 like title says. I am considering buying it. He says all it needs is new front lense and headband. I know it was top of the line long time ago but now is it worth the 50 bucks or should I get a used hobart or that yesweld v2 on Amazon?? I would post pics but can't figure out how. I'll edit later if I find out.Last edited by PainfullyBonded; 07-08-2021 at 05:07 PM.Reason: Add photos
Reply:Price consumables and check availability. I like standard lenses...easy to access replacement. Looked at a cute esab a few weeks ago. Helmet was reasonably priced. Lenses where like 7 bucks each. I left it for somebody else. I buy std lenses in large quantities.
Reply:Your helmet is by far the most important essential to your welding setup. ESPECIALLY for gtaw, where the arc length, and puddle are typically very minute. If u lost ur hearing, you could still tig just fine. Lose your sight, and ur done welding. Period. While that helmet was a top performer in its day, I would personally look to something newer. I understand that 250 to 300$ is a grip of cash, but its more important and necessary than whatever else u might think is a priority. Save the 50$ and 20 to 30$ ,(outer lens/headband) be patient, earn Xtra cash if u can't, and buy a new optrel vegaview, or any ebay used optrel you can afford that still operates. I'm an optrel d!Crider. Best optics hands down,. Reply:Speedglas has a new helmet that is basically a newer version of that with the newer style lens that has better optics. I'd price out the new helmet and the new lens separately. If you don't mind a dirty older shell and can save $100 or so might be a good option. If the helmet in question works properly, you could also offer less money but just from reading on here, there are some decent new helmets with better optics for very reasonable prices.
Reply:The helmet alone isn't worth much. It all depends on how good the auto dark lens is. A new one of decent quality would be over $100 dollars. I just bought a new Lincoln Viking for my Fibre Metal helmet. !t was $130 dollars.I Choose the Lincoln as it had a two year warranty. I find so many of the $80 / $90 dollar replacements onlylast a few months I think This Lincoln is the clearest one I have ever used.
Reply:the Yeswelder 2.0 will be just fine.$68.00 on Amazon.the optics/clarity have improved quite bit on the "cheap" hoods from when the 900 came out.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Nothing wrong with that hood. I still use one of those daily. I also have the older model which also works great. $50 is a steal. Take it apart and wash the shell in the sink with a stiff brush. The headgear is a fibermetal. You can upgrade the knobs to the aluminum ones the pipeliner hoods use. Or do the jackson headgear conversion.Lincolin Power Wave 450, Lincoln Powermig 255, Lincoln Pro Mig 140, Lincoln Squarewave Tig 275, Miller Big 40 G(with Hobart Hefty suitcase), Thermal Arc 95S and Esab PCM875 in an already full machine shop.
Reply:Unless you add external batteries, I'd count on changing internal rechargeable battery too.
Reply:I just put batteries in my original 9000X the other day.. Still works the same as when I bought it in 1999.Not the best helmet by far, but dang it's been reliable..Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:So everyone saying to go the expensive and trusted brand route has me thinking my eyes are kinda important to me since I only get one set until science gets good enough to make the blind see and all that jazz. So I found a speedglass 9100 mp air hood for 225. I feel like that's a lot for a used hood. Is it really worth it considering that there new flagship is the g5-01.What are some things I should check when I go to buy it other than shade cycles and activation? Here are some pics of it. |
