Grinder finished, root rake finished....New Toy.

Well I finished up the grinder last week and went back to finishing the root rake. When I returned to their shop, low and behold someone's getting a new track loader.Finished the teeth on the root rake and hard faced the new one. Man they are making them cheap these days. They are going to see if they can order new hooks for the one I put teeth on. If they take to long to get I'll either repair/rebuild these or make new ones. The fill and bore on the hooks would be close to an inch of material added. They do have a 100 ton press that is fun to play with. But if you look at the quality of the new one in the last pic it is easy to understand why fixing the old equipment makes sense.

Reply:Some real welder shat right there boys and girls.  I am going to agree that fixing thew old makes a lot of sense on that end. Its proven and tailored at that poinjt, you as a contractor are an expense and prolly a fraction of a payment of a new one to get the same end result. Reply:Normally I am careful anymore to modify  long time made factory machines, old well proved models but I try to splain the other day,,,,,, over long term we now know how it works like a real dealer should and we see what wears out over and fixing it on a new one before it starts in this case not going to fundamentally change a real principle.  Might be able to PM over multiple units facing some same problems.   I kind of elude to this being one of the best simple trade schemes we see in this biz.  No real complicated bid, good rates and supply of work where you are making them money with every rod.  You are an expense same as fuel and right where the rubber meets the road in different lingo.  Right on the spot where if you dont fix they dont go.  This should be a poster case for some young guys wanting in this biz and on their own.  It aint for everyone and need to find customers appreciate the effort but its cost saving and that drives a lot.Last edited by Sberry; 8 Hours Ago at 07:06 PM.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:Its back to work now is pretty simple vs some meetings and way too much discussion for broken stuff.  Getting someone capable to work on it in their own place fast cost less than fuggin around.   Another bonus to the customer besides getting the rake fixed is it can pay to keep you close to act as fire fighter with other problems.  Even though this isnt too super complicated cant just whip someone up at the last minute as needed daily or hourly even.Last edited by Sberry; 8 Hours Ago at 07:21 PM.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:Luckily I have a much needed week or two off to heal. lol This gives john some time to gather up some other stuff. Plus I have a little back log to finish up on some Bobcats...... Talk about cheap implements.
