Howdy, new to the forum/site so thank you in advance for looking over my question.I’m running a Victor O/A torch setup, using their new Edge 2.0 gauges, setup is a little over a year old.  I recently ran into an issue that for the life of me I can’t figure out. My gauges are set at  25/5, this particular issue occurred in the middle of the day, torch was working just fine up to that point. I fire up my torch, make my adjustments as usual to get cones even and so on…. Preheat and start cutting, after a few seconds with the oxygen lever depressed, my nice blue cutting flame fades away and I get a heavily oxygenated, long yellow flame and I lose the cut. I can let of the oxygen lever, readjust the oxygen knob and get my cutting flame back and start cutting again. Same will happen a few seconds later and I’ll half to readjust again to continue. I spent most of the day checking my system for leaks, making sure my settings are correct, cleaning tips, using an brand new tip. All with the same issue repeating itself. I swapped the torch itself with my shop set and am still having the same issue. My next step is to swap regulators and see what happens. Just running this by everyone to see if it’s operator error or if this a problem with the regulator? Thanks again for your time and input. Stay safe.
Reply:Check the regulator secondary pressure when you hit the cutting lever and see if it fails to maintain pressure and it drops too low.   It could also be some junk rattling inside the cutting O2 valve and passage that restricts the flow.  Disassemble, clean out, blow out with air and try again.

Reply:I presume that you also remembered to open the oxygen valve on the handle a few turns.

Reply:Yes, the oxygen handle valve is open, I typically leave it open three or so turns. I took the torch itself apart and blew everything out. Still suspicious it is the regulator being that it is doing the same thing with two different torch handles when hooked up to the set of regulators in question. In that instance, I’d be better off just sending them off to be serviced and diagnosed? I’ve never actually tried to tear down a set regulators….I’ve also noticed I half to lightly tap on the side of the regulators when making adjustments to see what the actual setting is…..my old set of victor’s doesn’t do that?
Reply:Try running the regulator pressure up and down a few times which might free up a "sticky" regulator diaphragm.  Also try bumping up the oxygen pressure to 50 PSI and see if the problem goes away and then drop it back down until it still cuts properly.  Cheap regulators may be poorly calibrated, so the dial may be lying to you.

Reply:Sounds a lot like a plugged inlet nipple filter to me. I once grabbed a cylinder from the back of the cage (in a hurry) and hooked up without cracking the valve to blow it out. 5 minutes later I found out that a spider had built a nice nest in the valve that was packed very tightly into that little sintered bronze filter. Had to punch the filter out to keep going. After that it was spare regs on the trucks.
Reply:Another problem may be that the regulator is "creeping", allowing gas to seep past the seat when it should be closed, something that watching the delivery gauge for a while after its initial adjustment  should show. You'd be first adjusting the flame according to the overpressure, then need to readjust when the regulator is feeding more as it was intended to be set.
