Actually, I actually do...........and I don't claim they're original thoughts. We're pushing the envelope on getting some hay in this year.  What else is new??Anyways, I'm trying to find somebody to roll the hay after I cut, and rake it.  I won't get the baler fixed on time, and I know it.  It's depressing as Hell, but it's a fact.We desperately need a loader, and it has to be done this Winter.I really wanted to build a bridge crane, but it's not gonna happen.  Life's like that.Doing the numbers, K'kins, and I, decided that a good level slab, and a gantry crane is the best solution.........LIKE A LOT OF GUYS SAID.This axle job would have been better with a slab........coulda used my cherry picker(could have removed the bolster to do a better job).  And money considerations make it the best solution. So, I guess, if the damn lung stuff is settled.........it's gonna be a general contractor, metal fab, thing this Winter.  I don't believe I can do anything but the most simple things on the motor.  Probably have to outsource it........or buy a used motor.  But there's gonna be a motor in the Allis before next Spring.I will pontificate on the advantages of 8 sack mix vs. 6 sack mix..............with pictures

Reply:you will not know how you lived without it, dont get crazy on fancy mixes, concrete is going to crack!! if not naturally then the first time you fire up your torch and cut something either use that hogpanel looking stuff or rebar be better to go thicker, than higher psi concrete, but substrate work is even better roi that is the most important. concrete has like 10 to 1 compression to tension so 4000 psi concrete is 400 psi if the ground is settling underneathDo not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Reply:It doesnt need to be terrible thick if you not bouncing on it with dozers and working loaders.  I wish I would have used some rods vs so much mesh but crack or no crack it beats the dirt.  Steel shed also.  Enuf a guy can tear a couple jobs apart without drowning them from rain.  One of the reasons for conditioned space is so work can be offset during shat weather.  Hard to get the intended work done on a sunny day if you are rebuiolding it and as was mentioned,,, not sure where the point is here but storage pays or can pay or it probably aint worth doing.    I dont have it 100 % and birds do some damage but some covers for outside stuff for long term.

Reply:What's under concrete is everything. Here in VT the ground will freeze average year 60" deep. I've seen the ground freeze 7' deep, other years barely three feet & only briefly. The house is 8' below ground for the foundation. Other buildings sit on the ground. Most get thickened edge slabs. Typically, I dig 18" around the perimeter & 6" deep in middle.I have no example of cracked concrete, or shifting. Of course, here drainage is absolute. No water to freeze, no shifting from frost. An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:Yep... forget the bags. Strip your area to remove all topsoil and organic matter... layer of coarse gravel to level.... lots of rebar (not mesh... 3/8" on 12" centers) and good Redi-mix and keep it covered with plastic on a hot day for a slower dry. Work in stages... once you have the concrete pad you can add a pole structure around it with a roof, add the walls later. Think retirement man-cave... its great. The harder you fall, the higher you bounce...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes

Reply:out here, there is such a demand for truck drivers you can't hardly get concrete delivered unless your a regular, concrete plants have shut down because of no drivers. my dad does a lot of smaller pours 3-6 yards and uses one of these on a skid steer https://www.toolots.com/s-bc270-0323...Mixer%20Bucket haul the cement gravel out in a dump trailer. or have a load delivered that you can still get done, and get the powder on site for a small pour its really fairly fastDo not argue with an idiot. Reply:That is kind of neat.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:you have to leave the grate off to actually load them, and there is an american brand that is a way better machine. but my brother did a 30x 70 pour just rough finish for under a greenhouse in a day 1/2 yard at a time. you save about 30.00 per yard over a full truck load and way more on 6 yard or less small batchesDo not argue with an idiot. Reply:I might buy a gravel train of material if I did that.  I would love to do small batch.  The price is so right a guy hate to build that but could be done ,  I been looking for a yard mixed could trailer mount and pto drive or even electric in some cases.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:Those guys above must own stock in portland and steel.  Here's all you need to pour a slab for $1 per sq ft.
Reply:Im guessing that guy in the you tube is making fun of diy ers otherwise i dont think you could do it so wrong accidentally , a pumper for 40 dollars lol, duplex nails all on the inside of the frames poured on the grass i think there was some serious hyperbole going on there.Do not argue with an idiot.
