First welds since the cataract surgery.I haven't attempted an uphill weld of any kind in a very long time. I simply couldn't see anything but a huge glob of light. I may have done a few round welds back when I made the pipe stands, but they were flat welds I believe. The Warm Up Swing

Stepping Into The Box

The first weld was loose, and nervous. Arc too long, carrying too much metal, and generally not a best effort. But it gave the feel for it again. The second weld was better. Tight arc, more attention to the puddle, generally more relaxed. A stringer more properly sized for the diameter of the rod. I haven't seen an uphill puddle clearly in such a long time, it was a relief.I really don't believe in bench practice.........just weld what you have to weld. It's better practice to do the real deal.Anyways.............at least it's a start back to a normal work life. I'll never be the artiste some guys are, but it's coming back to a workable level.3/32 Excalibur at 85amps.
Reply:Good thing taking care of your eyes. "One of these days" I need to take care of my eyes. Been reaching for the readers a lot more often lately and the floaters visit more often than they used to.
Reply:Those will hold! I love 3/32 uphill for pipe and smaller structures. We've done so much, for so long, with so little. Were now qualified to do anything with nothing !
Reply:Soooo, are we to presume you'll be looking to grind out some previous welds to redo them now that you can see again?
