Reply:I'm not totally sure that I could have driven home safely, but in a pinch, I guess so.We came to the same agreement as when I had the lung biopsy.  They inserted an IV line so that a sedative could be given if need be...........but no sedative was given prior.  It was just to be used in an emergency if I got froggy.  (I wanted to be able to wear my own N-95 during the procedure, they put you on O2 if they've used the sedative)  It was a bit of a PITA to get it across that I didn't want anything but Lidocaine on the eye, but they were decent about it.They strap you to the table, literally

Then put a tight rubbery band around your forehead, and cinch it down to the table.  Which I think is great.  Anything to keep you from moving while they're messing with your eye is fine with me.  I was as stiff as a board anyway, so no worries

Sticky piece of plastic on your face, scrub down, and the guy starts.  They put Lidocaine gel on the eye.  Said to focus on the light, and I did.  3 lights in a triangular shape. The results were absolutely IMMEDIATE.  I could actually see every detail of the ceiling tiles above the table. The vision went to Hell about half an hour later, and didn't improve until around supper time.  The guy said this would happen. He called in the evening to see how things were going.  No problems.  Got reminded to wear the patch while sleeping (already used it  when we got home, and I took a nap).He says that some patients don't bother getting the better eye done if the improvement makes life easier.  I'll decide later.  I imagine the second eye will still be a PITA in bright light due to the cataract,, even though the vision is 20/60.The color rendition is different between the 2 eyes.  I asked about this, and the guy said that the eye that still has the cataract will always "see" with a yellow tint.First time, in a long time, that I can comfortably walk without worrying about where to put my feet.  I'd lost all depth perception. No lifting anything over 20# for 10 days.  This might be a good reason to do the other eye after the hay's in.  The front end requires a lot of lifting, and the roller definitely requires some serious lifting at odd angles.  And.........K'kins already has me on a strict diet of veggies with supper........she says I don't need any straining in other areas

Shoulda done this years ago

Reply:So glad to hear you shared the same results the rest of us had and predicted.  Shouldn't be any question as to whether or not to do the other eye when feasible to do so.Won't say "told ya so" seeing as you've had a bunch already.  See what I did there?

Reply:Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness accounting for 50 percent of blindness worldwide.   Third world countries having the majority of cases. Here in Canada basic cataract surgery is usually done in hospital and covered by our health care system and as such available to all who need the procedure. There are charitable organizations that help with eye surgeries for those less fortunate if one was able and inclined to donate.

Reply:I think Sams point was he was glad to be able to clearly see KKins after a long time. He just enjoyed being able to look at her. From Sam's posts, it is clear he still dearly loves KKins. I will give Sam a hard time for the way he doesn't  take care of his health and his equipment. But I would never give him a hard time over how he feels about KKins. Reply:Congratulations on the cat surgery!  Like so many here on the forum, so glad you had it done.  As soon as you can be cleared, do the other eye since you know now how easy it is.

BTW, after both my wife and I had both our eyes done, we found that colors were much more brilliant and true, and blues were outstanding.

Reply:One problem...............  There's always a problem

I had a very bad halo around bright light at night with the cataracts, and thought I'd lose that with the surgery.  I couldn't drive at night. Now I have a stinkin' starburst effect around lights at night.  I was never told about this, and I'm not thrilled.  If this doesn't go away with time, I'm still unable to drive at night

Actually, yellow glasses are good for a lot of situations. If you're staring at a computer for long periods of time, yellow lens can help with eye strain. On both my phone and my laptop, I have the blue light turned down. You don't really notice it on the screen, blue is still blue, just not AS blue. Try it - seriously! Reply:My eye's were done several years apart like at least 5 to 7 or more years apart and the lenses they used changed over the years so they could not use the same type of lens several years later.  This caused me to see the road signs in one size font in one eye and a different size font in the other.  It took about a year or so to get over that.  Your brain adjusts but if I close one eye and look then do the opposite I can still notice it.  It bothered me like crazy at first.Oh anyway give it time and make sure you talk to your doctor about anything you notice.  Example, eyes staying red or in pain for too long like longer than a couple of days.  Having a film that causes cloudy vision at any time during the day or night. Most important is to use your eye drops as prescribed and show up to the follow up visits.Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo.  Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.
Reply:Try the orange/amber glasses, they help a lot with glare, just think how scary(for the rest of the drivers on the road) it was just driving in the daylight.NRA LIFE MEMBERUNITWELD 175 AMP 3 IN1 DCMIDSTATES 300 AMP AC MACHINELET'S GO BRANDON!"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
