Customer wanted to save heads, Larry closed shop so getting another set ported by him wont happen. Says these worked better than others he ran. Preheat 350 degrees, weld with a356 wire, post heat 350 cool slowly. Then spend lots of time fabricating seats, machine work, pressure testing, grinding to shape.Equipment:2  old paws2  eyes (that don't look so good)1  bad back

Reply:Dropped a valve, shoved it into valve seats which broke into small pieces and were pumped into other cylinders. Valve and piston dont do well in same place at same time.PeterEquipment:2  old paws2  eyes (that don't look so good)1  bad back
Reply:I've broke a couple valves.... usually they went straight up through the head and destroyed it on the way to the valve train, or up into the head via the side of the cylinder wall which destroyed both the cylinder and the head. I've never seen the shrapnel get into more than 2 cylinders before.  This guy is very lucky he had something left to work with, and knew somebody that could fix it right...The harder you fall, the higher you bounce...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes

Reply:Mine were both IHC gas 6 cylinders, and both broke #1 exhaust after a valve grind. They did manage to stay pointy side up though...The harder you fall, the higher you bounce...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes
Reply:Thanks guys. This is typical crash results, but valve/parts can end up everywhere! Blocks do not escape damage along with a bent connecting rod. I have photos of a nitrous mishap that broke one end of the head off, it took a few hours but that one is back in one piece and back on drag engine. I tried to find a picture, but Googling "valve in piston" just shows pistons from interference motors. Sent from my Lincoln Buzzbox using Tapatalk

Real gearheads (born, not made) love ALL technology and consider each new challenge an opportunity to learn useful skills. 3D printing is driving interest in CAD so it's common for techies to design then make all sorts of useful electronic devices. Homebrewed EFI is very old news. What one many can make another can make. There are many techies intimidated by welding and wrenching. Best to enjoy them all because all it takes is determination.
