Reply:I had an airline that was made from pvc explode on me once . It was on a machine that was used for doing some air pressure tests . It came from another plant and nobody ever checked it. They just connected it to the shop air. Well I had to troubleshoot it to find a problem with its operation and my hand wound up by the pvc pipe when it exploded. I almost lost my little finger on my right hand. It did do some serious damage to it . Cut the tendon, muscle, and got the nerve , but a good plastic surgeon was able to repair most of the damage.  It sticks out from my hand a bit since the accident , but I do have full use.   The bad part was the pvc was hidden under some other parts and wasn't visible without looking for it. No one ever thought to look for it because it wasn't industry standard.  I do seem to remember that most if not all pvc has a warning against using compressed gases with it.

Reply:I had watched a video where people were being warned against using PVC for potato guns. Saw a couple after they exploded, not pretty.

Reply:I know shops with PVC lines and they have lasted 15+ years, but it's scary being in there in the winter time. With all the new rapid flex lines that can be installed, I don't see why anyone uses PVC anymore. I understand why people hate threaded pipe. I for one hate threaded pipe unless I put a T in every 10 foot.

Well can't really do that without messing up the thin copper plating and then they rust like crazy from flux and heat. I soldered them and now they are getting pretty rusty a year or so later.  You would never want to make chambers like were made out of that PVC no matter what you use. Better to get the proper filters and equipment.I do not think anything is a legal installation except rigid pipe and the plastic stuff they designed for air systems.

Reply:I worked in an old mill that had black iron pipe air lines. The whole system was full of rust andscale. It probably didn’t help that all the tees pointeddownward. Pieces of rust were big enough to clog upfemale QC fittings. In the newer shops I worked in,everything was copper.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:My shop has the aluminum ingersoll rand air piping system. Very expensive, but when your customer moves and tells you to keep all the old stuff, it makes great stuff for the shop.Fittings are way expensive.

Reply:IMO galvanized should never be used in air or natural gas/propane systems, it's easy enough to remove the zinc with muriatic acid.NRA LIFE MEMBERUNITWELD 175 AMP 3 IN1 DCMIDSTATES 300 AMP AC MACHINELET'S GO BRANDON!"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

Reply:I see a lot of systems here could used some improved design.  The only QC in ours for the operator to use is at the tool end of the whip or hose on a reel.  We never move sections of hose to another hydrant.  All hoses are fixed,      We have main /reg system, the serv ice valve is AHEAD of the equipment on the HARD pipe.

Reply:Lis has his hydrants valved ahead which is good.  I do a couple the same a QC ahead of my plasma for disconnect but they are not for the daily user.  There isnt any other regular use hoses though that get moved.   The operator can chose another outlet but they cant move the hose. This prevents any hi pressure disconnecting sections of charged hose.

Reply:They are not dumps. Prior to that the black hose had been on for 20+ years outside on a reel.  I have a couple 3 circuits I shut off, they are old, valve is local and not used constant.  3 circuits been on 25 years.  The comp has been on since the early 70s.   I have been thru a couple revisions, it's really good and dry now.  I worked a couple issues out last time that had got by me.  Most of the time little bottlenecks are irrelevent, I had a couple hyd jumper hoses that did using heavy impact but that was rare.   I had plastic under floor, replaced it with steel overhead and new manifold which really eliminated water.  Today would use steel for the manifold and some risers but I have 2 runs in the ceiling 100 ft and if doing it again would use a rated rolled hose, so much easier to install and no leaks, I would simply home run it. The manifold is 3/4 thru most of the turns and column, then 1/2 pipe rest of the way.  The id of steel is ruff but a 1/2 is closer to 5/8 than 1/2 in pipe, jf I was using tube would be 3/4.    One of the reasons steel rust so bad is when too large the air velocity is too slow to clear and condensate, obviously too small pressure drop but at out demand it's not a problem and last few times I pull out my 3/4 gun I hook it to my common hose reels and plenty suffecient.  It would prolly hit a bit more on 1/2 hose but it's irellevent unless it's actually needed, doesn't matter on paper how good it is if we not using it.www.urkafarms.comThis what was going to use for pipe is 4" PIPE. It would be used as a tank and a pipe giving great air anywhere in shop. It about 6 1/2 gallon for very 10 feet.Dave
