Has anyone ever come across a mig that was AC output,if so how does it weld compared to our usual DC sets, is there anybenefit to a mig being AC at torch, or is it a waste of time, would such a mig ever be of benefit to weld aluminium.Just curious really, have no mig that I can tear apart andre-wire to try.Would like to hear what you all think of such a mig, even better if someone has used one, I read they werea thing one time at the low end point.Last edited by Windingroads; 1 Week Ago at 07:27 PM.
Reply:I think it would be useless.

Reply:Your probably right.
Reply:If memory serves, several years ago Harbor Freight sold a crappy little flux-core wire feed that was AC.Reports were that it did suck.

Reply:Yea,,, that was their "Century 90" I think...Anyway, I had one, worked pretty well for a $75 Flux MIG (better with Lincoln wire). There were people who converted them to DC (I think their are threads in the HF forum right here), I never tried one of those once converted but, I welded a lot of "thin stuff" with it in AC, it worked!

Reply:I try a small AC fluxcore welder 120 volt it did not do the job.It flip the breaker or you had a cold weld. Dave

Well converting to DC would up the secondary voltage by about 1.4 times, that would help,
