Does anyone wear glasses/contacts and use a cheater lens in the helmet at the same time for welding? Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkLast edited by danike110; 11 Hours Ago at 04:39 PM.
Reply:Absolutely....I have bifocal contacts that allow me to read most things without cheaters. I wear cheaters if I'm going to do a lot of reading or upclose work (+1.50). In my Optrel Helmet I have +2.00 all the time (for TIG).If I am doing most welding (again Tig) and am close (say 8" to the work) I am wearing them ALL.If I have to back off, because of structure, and the distance to the weld becomes 18" I remove the +1.50 cheaters but still have the +2.00 in the helmet. If I have to weld at "Arms Length" a grab the spare helmet without any magnification in it....
Reply:I use one with glasses. It helps but I don’t think the optical quality is all that good on molded plastic lenses.Plus, you’re looking through an extra layer of material.I need all the help I can get to see the puddle clearlyand closely enough.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:You can get glass cheaters off fleabay. Come from china but optical quality is much better than the plastic we get from LWS.
