Hi,New poster here. My name is Steve. I'm working on a '55 Short Hood with a Hoof regulator. I was wondering if anyone can help me locate the adjustment screw or spring assembly. I possibly need the whole assembly, I can't get any adjustment out of it, it's wore out.

Reply:I see a shorter than original adjusting bolt has been installed but those springs don't look out of the ordinary to me.  I suspect you may have an internal issue instead.  For the adjusting bolt I would just take a longer bolt and cut additional threads on it with a die if/as needed. Here are a couple threads on the Hoof unit for your reference:https://weldingweb.com/vbb/threads/1...highlight=hoofhttps://weldingweb.com/vbb/threads/7...highlight=hoofMM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110

Reply:I meant to mention that the operating lever looks to have been modified as evidenced by what appears to be a weld bead just above the operating shaft. Can you post another photo or two showing the entire operating lever and linkage to the carb?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110

Thank you for the reply. I believe everything is original. The only thing in the first picture is a piece of weld wire i twisted around the screw trying to keep it in place. The teeth and the channel the screw rides in are worn.

Reply:OK I see the original adjusting bolt is still in place and it is the jam nut I was looking at that is shown in the first post. The sensitivity adjustment teeth wear shouldn't be that big of an issue as you can still make adjustments if only a little more challenging after loosening the jam nut on the backside. It does look as if someone modified the operating lever by adding the break-away section which would explain what appears to be weld bead about an inch above the operating shaft.  Original short hood governors have a solid lever and the break-away is at the carburetor. What is it exactly that isn't working regarding the inability to adjust it.  Speed too slow and won't increase or speed too fast and can't slow it down? Can you post a shot of the carb and linkage arrangement there?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110

Reply:Original issue was unit wouldn't go to weld speed. found rheostat open. Then bellows would activate but unit wouldn't respond correctly. Set low idle with governor arm unattached to 1050 rpm. activated by shorting ground and stinger. set weld speed to 1550 rpm. removed short and unit will not idle down. tried loosening said jam nut and turning screw counterclockwise to lower idle speed. Problem is someone before me had tried to adjust it as well, and now it will not hold idle speed.

Reply:As I suspected, the original break-away at the carburetor shaft has been eliminated hence the addition of the one at the governor operating lever.  Not an issue as I see it.Low idle speed is set at the carburetor with the bellows idler pulled in by vacuum.  Weld speed is set at the governor with the bellows idler released by striking an arc or - for the purpose of static settings - with the linkage disconnected.Looking at the close up of the carb linkage, I suspect the issue is the inner yoke clamped to the throttle shaft that the idler linkage contacts is out of adjustment.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110

Reply:Thanks for the help today, I greatly appreciate it. I'm out of the shop tomorrow, will attempt to readjust Wednesday.
Reply:OK. I work (drive) nights and just got up from my afternoon nap.

Won't be available until sometime briefly tomorrow and then again until Thursday to respond if/as needed.
