Hey yall! Like the title says.....I just picked up a new to me mid 90's ranger 9 that starts and runs great but produces no weld or receptacle power. It also has a high idle that can only be cured by manually pushing on the throttle lever. I bought the machine from the original owner in its current condition. He said a couple years ago he was welding with it and at one point he finished a weld and when he tried to start another weld it wouldnt do anything. The machine has 2,500 hours on it and the serial# 9975-U1950217611. So my question is instead of just throwing parts at this thing where do i start with troubleshooting? Thanks for any help in advance!!

Reply:Post a code number from the front of the machine? Reply:The 9975-U1950217611 i posted is the only numbers on the front of the machine.
Reply:First things that come to mind are dirty armature and or stuck brushes, worn brushes.  Cracked slip rings that brushes ride on.  Bridge Rectifier but don't think that would effect your AC aux. power. not sure. many more qualified than I will chime in.  here is the owners manual for your unit   Code 9975https://www.lincolnelectric.com/asse...oln3/im511.pdf"Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:A miller bobcat has a fuse inside the unit that will cause that issue - don't know about a lincoln though.

Reply:Check the D2 diode and C1. When welders will not make output. Start will the excitation circuit. For that we need AC voltage on wires 7 and 9. If no voltage on 7 and 9 you may need to flash the welder. Also there may be a short in the excitation circuit. Slip ring to ground, D2 diode.wires 200 and 201 to ground . or the C1 capacitor is bad.

Reply:Ok so I have 0v AC on wires 7 and 9 but if I switch the multimeter to DC I get 1V on wires 7 and 9.
Reply:Wires 7 & 9 will be the AC that feeds the rectifier bridge (diode block), which rectifies it to DC and feeds the slip rings excitation voltage via wires 200A (+) and 219 (-). Yours has no output, so if you can find wires 200A and 219 and momentarily jump 12v from the battery to them, you should see voltage at the outlets with your meter if there isn't something wrong in the windings. I'd also recommend testing your field diodes with your meter. If it doesn't have a diode test function, just set it to ohms, pull the wires and check the spades each way. Across the diodes your meter should show low resistance one way, and OL the other way. Don't get the leads mixed up when you reconnect them.
Reply:Just curious I have the same problem same type of machine 0 voltage on wire 7 and 9 windings do check out good did apply 12 V to the slippers did build voltage kind of confused as to where to go next I'm assuming PC board but the sevice manual doesn't give inputs and output trouble shooting for the PC or a flashing procedureLast edited by Andy D; 11 Hours Ago at 03:55 PM.
Reply:Flashing is what you did when you applied 12VDC to the rotor slip rings.I presume the service manual you refer to is manual SVM110A?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110
