If the economy takes a crapper there will be some deals on collectors and hobby stuff again, all the sport toys everyone been making payments on.  I bought 1 truck local with a long story on it and not so good, I stumbled on another when someone was headed on a trip and he got a whole fleet and then some of "rides" and builds of all kinds but my interest now is utility.  I bought a van anbd could have doubled my money overnight, they aint all that easy to find though.  I understand cost more means better stuff and maybe better margins but regardless of book value the market is different.  I got 5 in mine, and I did some upgrades I wouldnt for sale and I need to keep it but the 2500 class van is easier to find than PUs and lots of the trades trucks were well used but well serviced and if I really kept my game on could focus on which ones were and not.  I have asked on forums before but it never amount to much but I would like to find someplace reasonable and could be interested in a semi hobby buying scheme from out of state.  They aint new but I got a paint shop and nothing easier than a work van, can change the colors and got no problem going back a few years.   I like some of the pre 2000 and after 2005.  I really dont care about year/value much and I do consider previous work to some extent.   3 things I might be interested in.  Cargo utility vans, mini vans and maybe Cadillacs but there are guys do any and everything, I wouldnt mind niche a little, makes the fix up, sales easier when I can target vs the shotgun approach.    I might figure a way to outfit the transport some and got nothing against flying in.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:Painting daily cars and trucks here is a waste of time and I am not in to custom work, paint jobs etc on hobby crap.  There used to be paint shops around, lotsof mom and pops and wasnt a real big deal to have a car painted, amde them look good another couple years.  Only places left are mostly collision and guys know somebody to have a work truck painted on occasion I spose.  They just rust so fast, so much brine that once the finish is thru they are done and no amount of stuff going to stop it and not worth the investment.  A body from the south is another matter though and so it the rest of it.  I got a bud wants to find a body for his old truck and fails to comprehend that if the body is good why take it off a frame that is better to put on your rusty old one??? ha,  I got a 99 from Wash that is like working on a 3 year old car here, feels absolutely new in that respect.  It aint new but the finish is replacement shocks and brakes all new and look like it.  If I drive it, in 5 years a brand new 70K truck would be wrecked and even if I fussed over it depreciate by 1/2 and I can wreck a 10K truck too.  But the thing is, they got to be worth fixing.  Somewhere I have a current pic of the bottom one I recently retired. That green one looks good in comparison. People looked ant my cars and went yuk but it was so easy to step in to them for intermittent use when they ran so good and didnt cost.  Finally just dont work, doors fail, dust thru them.  I drove my 91 PU till it was at the end too.    I am going to change biz a little, I need a couple modest utility and when I am done I swing by the truck inspector and have him put a sticker on.

Reply:So here my 22 year old van will look about the same in 5 years as new one I bought today.  Those minis were so deteriorated, we knew they were headed to scrap so the busted knobs and fixes quit at some point but once you got in and were rolling you kind of fogot about it till u got looks for being the junkest car on the road..  So frickin comfortable, drive so smooth, heat and cool so well.   Almost anyone that ever drove that green one more than a couple minutes and on the hiway always commented on what a comfy smoothg nice handling bugger it was.  Every guy I know had one says the same, super comfy and easy as it gets.   The old part wouldnt bother me, that is a little truck I would consider at a decent price in good shape and working.Last edited by Sberry; 15 Hours Ago at 12:10 PM.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:The utility of a mini van is hard to beat, and most of them ride very comfortably. My friend's dad loved toyota previas, and admittedly they were great.I've seen minivans carrying some ungodly loads out of the home depot - not safe, but impressive

If I was going to buy new (or newish) today I would seriously consider one of those sprinter style vans.  They are just industrial mini vans lol, but their practicality is hard to beat.
