I know I have been asking a lot of questions lately but I want to try and make an informed decision. I'm looking pretty hard at one of the following three welders and am hoping that one or more people have experience with one or more of them. Thanks in advance for any replies!Forney Easy Weld 180 ST 120V/230VHobart Stickmate 160iTitanium 225 from Harbor FreightThe Forney and the Hobart are similar prices and the HF Titanium is about $100 less. Thanks!
Reply:What type of work do you plan on doing ? Stick is great for heavier dirty material. Mig is great for nice clean welds using gas with little clean up and it's quick .
Reply:Mainly because arc is how I learned to weld.

Reply:I have owned many machines over the past few years, and am currently down to two Longevity machines, a 140 amp stick machine, and a 200 amp mig/stick machine, and am very happy with both.HOWEVERI do wish I had the option to use ac welding, because so often, arc blow is a problem. An ac/dc machine would be a good choice, but I imagine any of the three you mentioned will do just fine. The Hobart is reasonably priced at Northern tool, and may have a longer warranty. The inverter machines are very efficient, and will probably give you all the power you need from a 30 amp circuit, but the bigger transformer machines from Lincoln and Miller May require 40 or 50 amp circuits to do the same.Any one of the above will be something you can look forward to using.
Reply:I looked at the titanium 225, seems like a pretty decent machine. The higher amps and duty cycle would seal the deal for me. I wouldn't worry about having AC current, I have burnt a lot of rods and never needed it.
Reply:I retired 13 years ago and gained a lot of welding /fabrication knowledge from this site for which I am grateful. My wish would be that you ALL get to the situation I enjoy. Hopefully cancer free or otherwise healthy and happy. Life is short guys, give it rest. I never went crying to my mommy when I didnt like something and I really dont intend to start now.: |
