Hello just looking for a little bit of technical info. I am building a 4 x 8 utility trailer and I am looking for two measurements. The first is from the hitch to the front of the trailer so far I think it should be 37 1/2 inches. The second measurement that I am looking for is from the axle to the front of the trailer I think it should be around 58 inches. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you so much.

Reply:Thats good advice thank you I forgot about weighing the tongue for 10% of trailer weight. I think I found a DIY scale set up on the internet

Reply:Calculate the weight of the steel using #/foot, or #/square foot, tables. You'll be surprised how close you'll be, when you actually run the trailer across a scale. Discount the weight of the axle when you weigh the thing. This'll tell you how accurate your estimate was. The actual weight of the axle isn't really relevant. Might be on a big trailer that has to be scaled if it's a commercial vehicle, or if you're really pushing tire loads. But, it doesn't figure into weight transfer to the tongue.Last edited by farmersammm; 3 Hours Ago at 12:18 AM. |
