Mig gun troubles

So I have a Lincoln 175SP that uses the 10' Magnum 100 gun which is no longer supported. I swapped a 15' 250L gun onto it and my welds have gone to crap! Is that extra 5' too hard on my machine? I noticed if I upped the power I could get slightly better welds but spatter and popcorn abounded.Am I limited to a 10' stinger on my lil-mig?Thanks

Reply:Thanks Broccoli, I caved and swapped the 10' back on and my welding prowess has returned. I trash picked a SP100 110v unit with a bad gearbox (nla) so I'm going to 3D print one and try it out for mobile repairs - I had wanted to put my 100L on that one. I guess I'll swap it to test and then the new gun will go onto the 175.
Reply:Realistically 10 footers aren’t the end of the world.  Just requires planning and repositioning of the welder or cart. Reply:I agreeI used Tweco and had 10 foot gun for aluminum wire. The longer the gun the more difficulty you have feeding the wire.Today my welder has a 6 foot gun but life the welder w/wire too. I also have 8" wheels so moves easily even over dirtMy old wire feeder (Miller 30A) with wire was about 120 pounds and the wire was exposed 😳. Dave

Reply:Not sure what size wire you are trying to push but 023 and a 15' gun will be disappointing. Plus those little SP and Weldpak units had a pretty weak feed motor and when it labors it will lose some wire speed. Reply:i dont think id be so fast to accept the extra 5' is the cause on this.     id be taking a close look into  a connecrtion/feed related problem first
