Stainless welding gray

If i use .045 308l rods my weld is shiny but when i use 1/6 308l  my welds are gray. Heat zone seems the same. I tried more and less amp but no change

Reply:Could also be that you are cooking out the nickel and Chromium with too much heat? i.e., moving too slowly with the 1/16th rod? Maybe you need more amps so you can move out quicker.Miller Multimatic 255
