This rig is about to get a goin' over, along with some reconfig ideas I'm considering. The 1965 SA-200 Redface has lived on that trailer since the early 70's. I'm going to keep it trailered, and make several repairs & improvements to the trailer itself.I've wondered for some time why the skid under the machine is there. I can only assume that it was mounted that way when the plant (that my family got the welder from) purchased the SA-200, possibly used. I can't see any reason for it on the trailer, so it may be coming out. It would make access a few inches "easier". But it occurs to me that the skid itself might be a clue to the machine's early history. However, since the skid is only big enough for the machine itself, it's not like the larger skids I've seen used in the oil field, or on offshore rigs.Has anyone seen a skid mounted SA-200 setup like this in use? What industry/location?

Reply:There's not to many ways I haven't seen an SA mounted. There is nothing unusual about that. See if the bottom of those rails are worn or gouged up and it'll tell you if it was dragged a time or 2.Lincoln 330MPXLincoln Power Mig 256Lincoln LN-25X Wire FeederMagnum PRO 250LX GT Spool GunLincoln AC/DC 225¼ Ton of Torches OFC-A OFG-AAir Carbon Arc Gouging CAC-AEverlast 62i Plasma CutterIngersoll Rand T-30 14hpInstagram: #Freebird Welds
Reply:I agree there's nothing unusual about that skid. Just a nice subframe for dragging it off and on a truck or trailer deck. And still easy to drop on just about any light trailer chassis. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk:

Reply:For dragging it around or just so it's not sitting directly on the ground. I worked at a tank shop that had a few portable welders. They moved them with a crane but a skid would have kept them off the dirt. If there wasn't crane available you could drag it into position with whatever was available.
