Anyone seen facebook posts for Hobart welders? (I'm not shilling for them, won't mention the website name.) They *appear* to be selling Hobart welders for less than $200. EVERY welder, including generators, for under $200.I looked for fine print saying "6 easy payments of $200" but couldn't find it. Clicked the Buy Now button and didn't get any fine print. A couple of warning signs on the site, like non-standard English and a category called "Equipments". Says nothing about being the scratch and dent resellers or refurb outlet.Anybody seen this, or heard anything about it?

Reply:Yeah, i guess if i'm asking "is it too good to be true" then the answer is Yes.
Reply:Yup, I sent an advertisement for a 15 year old Airstream trailer in perfect condition to my son. I read it as $15000. Reading it again, it was $1500. SCAM!An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:I'm always seeing New Miller Bobcats for $800 on Facebook Marketplace.

Reply:I checked into a Craigslist ad for a “low hours” Bobcat.Price was suspiciously low. But I took the bait and contacted him to find out more about it, thinkingmaybe I got lucky.Guy had this strange story of how he didn’t live in thearea but the welder was near me. Description didn’t match picture. Payment was to be made through someodd method. A lot of big red flags. Then he wanted a down payment to hold it for me.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite

Reply:I see those all the time. I used to report them but, every time I did, I got 100 more. And Facebook doesn't seem to care, so why should I?I'm pretty sure the way the scam works is that you place the order, they send some cheap trinket to the wrong address in your city, then they send you the USPS tracking info (that doesn't show the address it was shipped to, just the city). When the package is delivered, you get the notification, contact the post office to tell them it wasn't received, and they tell you it was shipped to the wrong address but they can't tell you where, and you should contact the seller (who will never return your emails).I know because I tried it once with a different item. It was well under a hundred bucks and I paid with PayPal, so I figured I didn't really have anything to lose. PayPal refunded my money with no issues.
Reply:On Friday I got, in the USPS mail, a letter supposedly from someone (Sandra Garcia) in Barcelona, Spain claiming to work in a bank, saying a safety deposit box there containing 24.6 million dollars [Really, all that fits in a safe deposit box?] would soon be claimed by the government. Some distant relative (?) with my last name, together with his whole family, had been killed in a car crash six years ago....the pandemic has extended the times involved.... but I would get 40%, she 50%, a charity of my picking 10%.Suppose I want her to get 10%, me the 50% and the Ukraine Red Cross the 40%?

The letter has two (phone and fax) international phone numbers and one Email address (ending in @gmail.com). My only question is whether it is worth dropping off at the post office, for the fraud division to investigate, or whether I should report the Email address to Google? Or ,,,, I could post it here and let everyone respond, too...
