Picked up this nice unrestored Hobart today.. looking forward to either restoring it with new paint or... just protecting the patina and keeping it all original / old school... What do you guys think?Thank youKell

Reply:Never heard of the mid states welders till recently. Many old welding machines were made by the companies that needed them. GE, Westinghouse, P&H, are still around. I grew up around Schenectady NY where GE had a big factory going back to the 1930's . Reply:Have heard that the Hobart AC machines have a pretty smooth arc for an AC machine. I didn't mind a Lincoln AC225 but having used a few Miller Thunderbolt AC machines think they are over rated. On every one I've used it was hard to keep an established arc, especially with 7018. An AC 7018 may have worked better but I had no problem burning standard 7018 on an AC225 Lincoln even 5/32".

Any machine is only new once.  Why throw money away “IMO” making it look new again when it looks just fine.  Treat the rust and keep it from rusting more and it’ll serve you well.Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo.  Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.
