Hello, I picked up this Airco Wasp 180 III E at an auction over the weekend. I got the Kohler engine running good and the generator seems to work well but the welder doesn't work very well. It will strike an arc but pulls down the engine pretty hard and won't keep the arc going very long. I understand a lot of these were re-badged Millers but I couldn't find this one. I took the cover off and found the wire off what I think is the rectifier so I was looking for a wiring schematic and manual. Also wasn't very happy to see Generac printed on it but did a search and it looks like a 6945-2 but Generac doesn't have any info whatsoever for welders. So does anyone recognize it or know if Generac actually made this one or if someone else made the welding portion for them? But moreover does anyone have a manual or wiring schematic for this one and are parts still available anywhere? Thanks.
Reply:Decades ago I had a Airco Wasp II-E generator welder, it was AC weld only like yours. It was the same machine as the miller roughneck.you might look at miller machines of that vintage and see if any look like yours.A lot of miller and airco branded machines of that era were the same other than the paint and the label. You might also post on the miller forum, someone there might recognize it.
