I recently purchased a syncrowave 250. I believe it's a 99' model. I've hooked it up and I can only strike an arc on ac. When I turn it to DC negative or dc positive it trips the breaker as soon as I step on the pedal. Any help would be appreciated.

Reply:I have the Manuel. But when it comes to electronics and schematics well let's say I'm learning lol but I just did a diode test on the rectifier and it tests good. I just recently bought this machine and it looks like the diode is brand new. A buddy told me to check the shunt but in the Manuel it's saying the my version doesn't have one.
Reply:Also I played with ac a little more and it seems to be full bore on ac. Like bye bye tungsten hot.
Reply:Have you tried it with the contactor and current controls Not set to Remote and with the HF control in other positions, e.g. Off for stick welding? Turning the amperage dial all the way down should reduce supplied current in either case, Std. or Remote; the pedal should give 0 to 100% of that set value, in Remote.I'm not schooled in electronics but can often slowly work through diagnosing major electrical problems, as I have a general understanding of systems. Sorry, I can't do it remotely, as for others though. Some like Duaneb55 are very good with electronics and helping with such problems.
Reply:Well I have tried it with the hf off. And on. Remote on remote off. Pedal no pedal. And every syncrowave issue I find is nothing like this. The more I look around inside it looks like someone has tried to fix it before. The rectifier diode looks new and I got to messing with it and it was only finger tight. So I tightened it up. But as I was looking around I found something that looks odd on the polarity switch.  There's a capacitor or something that is connected to a hot wire and the other end is ground by a bolt next to the lem or hall device. I don't know if that's supposed to be like that but my limited knowledge I know a hot wire shouldn't be grounded.
Reply:If you know the serial number you can get the manual for your machine from the Miller website via a search. The manual will have the wiring diagrams.Gear: Esab power compact 205 with tbi industries torch         BOC Smootharc 185dc tig         Miller Syncrowave 350LX
