Not a Dewalt fan myself but I’m sick of my Lincoln hood not working right so I figured it was time for a new one. I need to go to Home Depot anyway so I was thinking of getting a new one there (probably not another crappy Lincoln one although their welders work great). Anyone know how good this Dewalt one is? I’m rather doubtful that it’s gonna be any good. If not, Helmet recommendation $200-$300 for TIG/FCAW. Also looking at speedglas 100v and miller digital elite.https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-3...1011/312555155Century FC-90Primeweld TIG 200D
Reply:Vulcan hoods from Harbor freight are rated high, and a lot cheaper than $220.00, I have a couple of hoods from Amazon, one is ok and the other is a very decent hood for $80.00 I paid for it, the one I like is made by TACKLIFE, I've had it for 3 or 4 years now & never a hiccup. More money doesn't necessarily equate to a better hood.NRA LIFE MEMBERUNITWELD 175 AMP 3 IN1 DCMIDSTATES 300 AMP AC MACHINEGOD HELP AMERICA!"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
Reply:No issues with the Lincoln 3350 4c hood on my end.  Replaced the battery once in 5 or more years.Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo.  Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.
Reply:I've had the Vulcan for about a year and it's been great so far.  Very comparable to 4c or clear light IMO.Lenses are available off the shelf at a great price, and are also actually pretty good. Use the coupon for the lenses as well.CONS:The standard warranty is pretty much crap, might want to go for the extended (I took a gamble and didn't get it, so far so good). If you sweat a ton it seemed to me it would might drip into the lens electronics, I covered mine with a plastic "splash shield"If you do go with the vulcan make sure you use this NO EXPIRATION coupon, just show the cashier the coupon from your phone: https://www.hfqpdb.com/view_coupon/11176  from www.hfqpdb.comYou can get a discount by applying for their credit card.It might also be worth it to you to join their inside track club, as they give you a percentage discount and sometimes it comes out cheaper in the end.  Usually this is used on a bigger dollar purchase though.
Reply:Well I was looking at the dewalt one because it is panoramic. Really I need a hood with the clearlight or "blue" one, where the puddle appears purplish. The "green" one blocks most light but there is sometimes a spot (that fades quickly) that I can see after extended work which is definitely not good.Century FC-90Primeweld TIG 200D
Reply:Dewalt does not make welding hoods so most likely that Dewalt hood comes from the same factory as the HF Hood. Now yer just paying a higher price for the Dewalt Yellow paint job.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:I Have no experience with the dewalt helmet, and have never seen one in the wild (zero anecdotal evidence as well). But if I were in your shoes, and wanted a panoramic helmet, I would NOT go with dewalt. As mentioned dewalt doesn't make this helmet, and in my experience dewalt branded things not made by dewalt are usually junk, and are always crazy overpriced. You Really can't go wrong with any of the big names using 4c / clearlight type technology.  If you can physically try them on at your local welding supply it will help you decide what you want.  Couple of thoughts to leave you with:I don't know of a single pro around here that uses a panoramic helmet, and unless you have a very unique situation I can't see it coming in very handy, especially not for the price increase (little value imo).  The way I see it you want as little light inside the helmet as possible EXCEPT that coming directly from your arc.  The side windows would be like welding outside with the sun lighting up inside your helmet. The headgear and overall fit/weight distribution can be the deciding factor.Make sure to price out consumables if you're going to weld often (generally: more popular models = cheaper lenses, and curved lenses = very expensive). Most batteries will leak eventually these days, name brand included.  The only battery brand I've never had leak is eneloop rechargable batteries, but they "idle" at a lower voltage so your helmet may or may not like them (buy from reputable dealer, b&h photo, amazon will likely send you fakes). The vulcan is the new style 4c/clearlight lens - check it out on their website, they have an arc shot.  As I understand it harbor freight "stole" a high up lincoln engineer and copied a bunch of their stuff (they were sued by lincoln over the vulcan tig200).  Tons of reviews on the website, and I started to see them pop up in the wild by pros (who are mostly VERY cheap and abusive with equipment lol) were what made me give it a chance.Good luck!Last edited by SlowBlues; 9 Hours Ago at 06:25 PM.
