Reply:Did pretty good on it actually. Got a good tranny case out of it, rebuilt the insides. AND I got a good set of hangers for clutch, and brake pedals. And a good floor opening cover thingy where the transmission goes. I may have to use the tunnel too. Great swap for 7 bales of hay.I have a really good body that had an automatic in it. So I'm hoping that I can rebuild the auto cab to accept manual trans. stuff. GOOD LUCK TO ME SAYS I.Last edited by farmersamm; 02-23-2009 at 01:35 AM.Reason: spelling.... sway/swap"Any day above ground is a good day"

Reply:here's a couple pics of mine set up for plow duty. the other one is the day after I got the machine mounted in the bed. It sure is nice to have the machine in the truck for plowing, the extra weight allows me to plow in 2wd and I even got to use it when another guy backed over a sign.

I work out of a VW Jetta...

It amazes me how I can fit my Dynasty, all the cables, Oxy / Prop torch, 40ft argon tank, grinders, hand tools and usually a few small pieces of steel in there and still get down the road making money... I may move up to a Ranger one of these days ...mmmm.... a real truck...mmm

Reply:Lugweld, I have practically the same truck here, an '87 Dodge Ram50 longbed 4cyl/5spd. I have been using it lately with my portable generator to get jobs done while my usual welding truck is at the mechanics. Normally it's my run-around truck, but was my makeshift welding truck before I got serious about mobile welding and set up the F350 to do the job. Generac 4000XL powering the Millermatic 175 in the back of the little Dodge is what I used on my first mobile gate repair. The little trucks are tuff and seem to last for decades with only minimal maintenance. I brought my Bobcat home in the little truck and kept it on there till I transferred it to the big truck for it's permanent home. That little truck was riding low in the back with the Bobcat in it, but it handled it fine.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

I'm planning on keeping her as my daily driver just taking away the heavy work. I do have my eyes open for a rabbit diesel truck too,.. just real hard to find these days.

But you are right. It is illegal for any type of highly compressed gas cylinder. Something were to happen, your car would turn into a self propelled missle.BTW Spaulding,Cab overs are nice. OH, the little gold Wisconsin powered Hobart in the back of the ford goes in my red dodge 4x4 (in back-ground) for those muddy/ snowy situations. It is mostly used as a generator when the ice storms take our power out.

Reply:OK!Mine is still sitting in the back yard waiting for me to start doing something with it!Its a 1991 F-250, 351ci and 5 speed manual, "Ex farm truck", the previous owner had the suspension re-done so it has the equivalent of a 1 ton suspension, I can load it down to the top of the cab with stacked fire wood, and it just makes it ride better!I plan on removing the bed and replacing it with a flat deck or a service body "when I can find one" and start from there!Ken.

It is a little heavy as its tread plate as you can see but it slides back to the halfway point and leaves a nice overhang to stay out of the weather or you can flip the back door over and stand up in the back third. From the rear the box on the right is an extension of the bottom cabinet. This is where the oxy/acet is and the hose real. You can't see it in the pics but there is a gen set on the drivers side behind the cab. This set up is heavy but it is a 450. Also a small hoist in the back on the drivers side that swings out.Last edited by flatbustedbroke; 03-01-2009 at 08:40 PM.

Reply:the hoist was easy. I cut down a cherry picker (engine hoist), mounted it to a front hub off Dana 30 I took out from under my Wrangler, recessed that into 6" pipe, cut a hole in the floor 8" out from the wall and 8" from the rear, added gussets under the floor. I will post the pics when I get back home might be next weekend. |
