I’m installing my new air compressor system and have a question about where is the best place to install the canister-based water filter coalescing desiccant dryer system.  Directly out of the 60 gallon Quincy compressor I’m installing a rubber whip-type connection, then into 50 feet of 3/4 copper configured as a radiator system with 6 drops for purging water, then about 30 feet of flexible hose to my Hypertherm 65 at my STVCNC 4x4 table.  I was thinking of installing the canisters at the end of the copper cooling system, before the final flexible hose.  Would it be better to install on the edge of the table right next to the plasma cutter?  If so, who has done it this way and could you provide pictures and/or reasons for where you mounted the canisters?
Reply:I made a similar system for my table. I used 1/2" black iron pipe since that is what I have. The air comes out of the top of the compressor through the radiator. Then into the top of the tank. Automatic condensate drain at the bottom of the tank. Then it goes through a refrigerated dryer and 50 more feet of pipe. I put my regulator and desiccant dryer right before the plasma. Yesterday I installed a magnetic switch for the compressor. I have replaced the pressure switch several times so hopefully this stops that.

Reply:They make t for a reason but unless you want to share the canister put it at the tool.    I dont have same exact thing but have a final catcher.  I could add another regulator on this circuit.   A regulator can share more than one poece, this is a place i useda couple quick disc.   2 of them after the regulator, one to the hose reel and one to the plasma, used so could disconnect either piece.

Reply:Putting it at the end of the 50' copper setup should do just fine.  There is a difference between coalescing and desiccant.  Coalescing material will dissolve and leave the water inside the container.  Desiccant will adsorb the moisture and change color.

Reply:The best place to install it,, IMHO,, is the coolest place in the shop. The cooler the air is, means the water vapor is closer to condensing, before the condensing accessory (whatever it is) tries to get the moisture out of the air.It is like driving your car,, if you are going downhill at 50MPH, and want to accelerate to 60MPH, the engine does not have to work hard to get there. On the other hand, if you are driving up a steep grade at 50MPH, and want to accelerate to 60MPH, the engine might not even have enough power to make that happen. The thermodynamics of heat flow is similar to making your car move,, use the low cost, or sometimes free advantage. So, cool, cool, cool,,, is the friend of your condensing device
