I didn't think I've have trouble finding someone local to sell metal. Looking for basic stuff, square mild steel tubing, 1/8 or 1/4 plate. Stuff the big box stores sell, but in either larger quantities, better prices, different sizes. I'm still a home hobbyist, so someone who is willing to sell to the guy off the street.I've search for metal supply, steel supply, can't find anything local to me.I'm in zip code 48306. Anyone around here who can point me to a good supplier? Finding lumber is way easier. lol
Reply:Did you try this?https://www.google.com/search?q=steel+yard+near+48306
Reply:I would try local scrap yards.Buying small amounts can be a challenge. The best way is make list and buy at less $250.00 better if it was over $500.00. Most steel where houses will sell at point. But back in 2001 I had a few steel suppliers minimum purchase was $1,000.00 .I had a overhead rake on my pickup that could hold 4,000 pounds and a trailer too.Dave

Reply:What radius of locality? Metal supermarket.  CraigslistLast edited by tapwelder; 15 Hours Ago at 12:45 PM.
Reply:I'd like to stay within 20 miles if possible. I'm in a very populated area.I of course did search in google. There's a couple but I don't see that they sell mild steel, more like custom metals (stainless, copper).
Reply:Try calling your LWS and see if they can recommend any metal suppliers. You may be looking for the secret hole in the wall mom and pop shop.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR"

Reply:For hobbyists like me I seek out places that sell "drops" at reduced prices.  This looks like a place that does that :https://www.alro.com/locations/locat...in.aspx?loc=MIFrom their website :Alro Metals Outlet locations act as an outlet store for metals, plastics and hardware supplies. We stock a broad range of products in a convenient retail setting. Metals Outlet specializes in small and large orders, perfect for do-it-yourself (DIY), machine shops and maintenance departments. We sell drops as well as standard length material in bar, sheet and plate. Orders can be processed to size while you wait.EDIT - Looks like G-ManBart got it covered before I could finish my post.  I would go with what he says since I only know what the Google tells me (I'm not from that area).Last edited by bead-boy; 10 Hours Ago at 05:00 PM.Century buzzbox that I learned on 40+ years ago (was Dad's)Crappy Century 110volt mig 70 amp pigeon pooper.Lincoln Idealarc TIG-300

Reply:Yes.  Have not used their service, however.  I was interested in an opportunity to sell metal. Free to join, seller pay on sales.
Reply:I can buy angle, flat bar round bar some square tube and some DOM tubing/pipe at my LWS. You really don't want to buy steel at the big box stores like Home Depot, Lowes, NAPA, ACE TRUEVALUE or any other seller that sells by the piece up to 6 or 8 feet long, to do so you may as well buy a jar of VASELINE & change your name to BEN DOVER.Last edited by CAVEMANN; 8 Hours Ago at 07:48 PM.LET'S GO BRANDON!NRA LIFE MEMBERUNITWELD 175 AMP 3 IN1 DCMIDSTATES 300 AMP AC MACHINEGOD HELP AMERICA!"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

Reply:You're on the outskirts of Detroit and can't find a metal supplier?...Huzza?  Find fabrication shops, and ask.  Find welding supply shops, and ask.  Find metal recyclers, and ask.  Put "metal supply detroit" in the googler and call all of the results.  And while a lot of them prefer to deal with large orders I've still gotten better prices than Home Depot on my small orders.  Prices are kinda high now, though.
