December was the month for chuck swapping. Had an old Chinese drill press that was 30 years old and the chuck was toast. Elected to move the Delta Jacobs over to this press. Plan was to buy a primo Albrech chuck for the newer press. But I couldn’t justify a 500$ chuck for a 100$ drill press. In any event, I needed to remove the old one. I welded this tool from scrap to separate the chuck off the JT33 spindle. Commercial shins would not fit.
It worked nicely and prevented damage to the chuck. So here’s the replacement. I had to speak to this. I bought a Wen 1/2 keyless. 31$. https://wenproducts.com/collections/...-inch-capacityAmazing quality and performance for so little dollars. Maybe 0.005” runout. Highly recommended to anyone going this route. Last edited by Continuum; 21 Hours Ago at 06:11 AM.
