...that when I watch real welders weld on YT they go so much slower than me? I try to slow down my travel speed but then the bead just piles up. I turn down my wire speed, then even I can tell I'm just piling metal, not penetrating metal.Perfect example, I just welded 1/8" to 1/4" with my MIG gun. Settings on hobart handler 190 said 5/60 for 1/8" and 6/70 for 1/4" (v/wire speed).  I chose 5/65.The tops are 1/4", the sides are 1/8".  All welds were 1.5-2" long, and not one took longer than 7-8 seconds to do. Seems like on the vids I watch people are taking 1.5-2x as long to weld that distance in similar materials. Am I doing something wrong? Or am I just over thinking it? Thx in advance.

Reply:Hahaha, I wondered the same thing. If I'm playin around, I like to practice and run vertical up's. It was the hardest position for me when I was learning. And not welding as much as I like, it's what I do. In the videos 1/8" lo-hy seems so relaxed and methodical. If I move that slow, as I get to the top of the piece, it would drop the puddle."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!

" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:Those welds will hold!  After you hit them with a flap wheel and paint them, they'll look great! It seemed like a good idea at the time!
