Hey Guys,I’ve got this welding jacket: http://www.blackstallion.com/product...bs-detail.htmlIt pretty sweet, the built in leather sleeves are nice for keeping the arms blister free from long days of repetitive welding on the stand at school. But I’ve had it for a few weeks, and it needs a good cleaning. I’m not sure how to proceed, should I do a cold wash, and hang dry? Hand wash? Should I hit the leather after washing with some type of conditioner? Didn’t find anything on their website.Let me know what you guys recommend Thanks!-Mark SmithMiller Bobcat 250Vulcan ProTig200Vulcan MigMax215Everlast PowerArc 210STLHypertherm PowerMax45 Xp

Reply:I've always just put leather welding jackets into a bucket of cold water with maybe a teaspoon of laundry detergent, stomped them down a few times, then rinsed and air-dried them. Worked well. The washing machine and drier always seemed a bit too aggressive to me...all I really wanted to do was wash out the salt from sweat (an electrolyte), and all you need to do that is water. YMMV

Reply:I have cheap leather cape sleeve/ bib combo that’s 35 years old. It’s been machine washed (gentle, cold) severaltimes. Took out the stink and most ofthe dirt with no damage.  The only problem I see with washingyour shirt is that the flame retardant material gets washed out of the cloth part of the shirt.  Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkLast edited by jpump5; 09-22-2018 at 07:02 AM.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:Yeah, the cotton part can endure 25 washings I think. My main concern is that I don’t want the leather to shrink and/or become too stiff. Based on the above suggestions I think I’ll put it on a cool/warm cycle on light/delicate and hang dry. Thanks to everyone who offered useful advice, and personal experience. Virgil5:Are you doing well sir? It seems lately that you’ve felt compelled to respond to a majority of all inquires(mine and others) on this forum with unhealthy doses of sarcasm, insults, and cynicism. What has made you adopt such an ill tempered demeanor? I have read some of your posts, and you do seem to have quite a bit of useful knowledge and experience. If I were to make a suggestion(Yes, I know it’s unsolicited) it would be to try and drop the undertones of condescension, and bolster your knowledge and experience to help others gain the same. In my philosophy, to be good at something feels nice, but to make others good at something feels even better. Not that you have to share the same sentiment of course. It seems that you’re in a perpetual state of looking down on the younger generations, but remember I’m here to ask questions, gain knowledge, and improve upon my experience. I have had the foresight to seek out an online community to do those things. The old saying if you’re not part of the solution, you’re a part of the problem comes to mind. It does not make sense to criticize and complain about the younger, and more inexperienced of us, while doing little to help the matter.Do not be mistaken, I’m not offended, as a compassionate person I am concerned though. I do hope that the way you carry yourself offline is drastically different than the demeanor you express here. If it is not, you do have my sympathy(even if you don’t want it). We all are given a certain allotment of time on this earth, I would posit that doing the very best to create happiness for ourselves, and those we come in contact with is the wisest way to spend it.Last edited by Mmock4; 09-22-2018 at 08:25 AM.-Mark SmithMiller Bobcat 250Vulcan ProTig200Vulcan MigMax215Everlast PowerArc 210STLHypertherm PowerMax45 Xp
