Recently got into DC Tig as I want to do exhaust pipes and bike frames later on. I have the basic Lincoln flux core helmet (not sure how specific I can be), basically its like $70 bucks and its auto darkening. I have noticed that sometimes while I get a very consistent, narrow stable arc (so hopefully for the entirety of the weld
) that my helmet will (un-darken?) if thats the word. Is there any solution to this or will I need a second helmet? If so, whats a good beginner one that wont break the bank (maybe keep it under $150). Thanks.Century FC-90Primeweld TIG 200D

Reply:IMHO.... And especially for TIG work, your helmet is not a "budget item"
There actually is a stark difference in what you see with an expensive helmet (kinda like SD and HiDef) and nowhere is this more beneficial than in watching a Tig puddle for the earliest signs of things going, just slightly, array. I learned to Tig with a 10shade piece of glass, got an early AD, but with the first purchase of an Optrel (used and I think @$150) I was Amazed at the subtilties I was missing with anything else. I'd never go back!
