I recently acquired a Hobart 27 wire feeder for 15 bucks on an estate sale. Im wanting to update to a bigger MIG in the 250amp range and will probably buy a new one but in the mean time I thought maybe I could do something with the Hobart if its in working condition. I realize I need a constant voltage DC welder and I see quite a few older stick welders for sale. Can I use something like a Lincoln tombstone to power the wire feeder? How do I determine which are constant voltage welders?
Reply:You need a power supply something like I've got - a Miller XMT304. All the big guys make some version similar, and many much bigger, but mine is int he zone you are talking about. Something like this one that can do CV and also CC is very handy.-DaveXMT304 with: 22A Feeder, or HF251 Hi Freq DC TIG air cooled |
