I picked up a track burner that came with a Harris machine torch. Along with the lot came a Harris BV-98-2 beveling head. That head has two tips on it. One is a regular cutting tip (that one cuts the bevel) and the other is a preheat only tip which is angled in such a way as to preheat the area of the bevel cut before the other torch reaches it.I hope you know what I'm talking about. Here's a pic:

I've done a bit of work with a track burner before including cutting some bevels but I don't really know how to use this beveling head. From inspection it seems the knob has nothing to do with adjusting the flame but rather the physical orientation of the heating tip. So you just start the regular cutting tip normally, adjusting the flame as usual, and then light the preheat tip and you get what you get? Or is one supposed to light the other?Apparently those heating tips must last a long long time because finding one for sale is very challenging.Just another puzzle ..metalmagpie
Reply:I would imagine that the preheat tip wouldn't even be needed on lighter material or if beveling close to the edge. Other than that, I don't know what to say |
