What type of weld is the best for patching rust holes? Overlap, flange, butt. Tig better then mig?

Reply:Can you buy a drop-in replacement?a replacement will save HOURS and HOURS of frustration,,BUT,, if you gotta weld,, plan on getting shag rug to hide the mess, heck, Gorilla construction adhesive may be better than welding tissue paper that is full of holes,,,

THEN, wear DARK sunglasses, and drive at night only,,,

Did I mention looking for a drop-in replacement??

Reply:Could it be soldered with flux and the proper solder or would that promote further corrosion from the flux and solder?Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo. Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.
Reply:I've worked on a lot worse than that. Mig is the way to go for that. Fitzee has a few videos on how to do this stuff with out a lot of fancy equipment.Pre made replacement floor pans are the quickest way to go if available... Reply:MIG or TIG would work, but you need two hands for TIG, which may favor MIG. Either way, if you weld it, you are going to be doing lots of spot welds and working to control warpage. Plus depending on how you want to finish it, you may need to do a bunch of dolly and hammer work. In the 1980's I would have gas brazed this type of patch. Less heat into the metal. Today if you have the equipment you can look at MIG brazing it. A lot of autobody repair is now done by MIG brazing.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:On the subject of "I-car", I see that HTP, Snap-on, and Fronius have brazing settings built in. In fact a few come with some sort of "I-car programs" and training. I'm not an autobody guy, but I find lots of uses for MIG brazing. Although $100 10 lb rolls might seem like too much for just hobby work. I did find a 2 lb spool at Grainger, but I think it was still $35-$40 for one 2lb spool. Do Lincoln, and miller (perhaps the 255) have settings built in ?RegardsAirco 250 ac/dc Heliwelder Square waveMiller Synchrowave 180 sdMiller Econo Twin HFLincoln 210 MPDayton 225 ac/dcVictor torchesSnap-On YA-212Lotos Cut60D
