I am building another 2” X 72” belt grinder (3rd). I developed a technique to be sure the base of a part and a hole would be aligned with other parts used in the build.  On parts that have a bolt or threaded hole that the spacing on duplicate parts needs to be the same.  Before I would measure mark and drill them independently, this caused some parts not to be duplicate.  Even clamping the parts together when drilling did not work well as when the drill penetrated the first part and entered the second one it could wiggle so the hole were close but not duplicate. Now I gather all like parts and put small tig spot welds around the parts to group them together.  I can now drill them and then move to  the base and grind or mill the base flat.  This insures that all parts have the hole center exactly placed to the base with all parts in the group.  After the work is done I use a small cutoff wheel to slit the spot welds and break the group apart. The hinge section on the belt grinder has 2 hinges about 12” apart and I can run a rod through the parts and weld them in alignment.  As I position other hinge parts using the rod they don't loose alignment when welded in place.  Attached are images of parts in a group for drilling and grinding.   I thought I would pass this along for other with similar projects.
