I need a more powerful air compressor than i currently have. My compressor is a 200 psi, 6 gallon 5.1 CFM @ 90psi. I love it because its quiet. I had this idea that if i bought another one i could hook them both together with an air hose and put them on a bigger tank. I could get a 200 PSI tank and  mount a top mounting bracket for the two compressors to sit on. This way if i needed a portable compressor i could just unhook the hose and lift the compressor off the tank. With this set up i would have 200 PSI and 10.2 CFM at 90 PSI, which should be enough for my needs. What do you think of this idea?

Reply:The only hitch to my plan is where do i get a large 200 PSI air tank that's affordable? a 20 gallon tank might be big enough. That with the 12 gallons on the two compressors would be 32 gallons. I could always use the pressure regulator to bring the pressure down to what  the tank is rated at but i would rather get a 200 PSI.Lincoln Pro MIG 180Chicago electric 225 ArcHarris oxy fuelEveryone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Reply:When I buy a aircompresser I adjust pulley size for 100 psi and the switch 80 to 100 psi. This max cft @ 100 psi.Unless you filling big tires then may need a higher pressure but that cuts the cfm down.Dave FYI  I like 12 to 15 cfm

Reply:I don't run 200 psi, but they will hold 90... which runs my air tools. I have a 300 gallon  propane tank for "outside" storage.  I  also use a ball valve so I don't have to hear that thing being filled if I am just running an impact to do brakes etc.  But if I need a lot of air I open it up.Sent from my SM-G960U using TapatalkI haven't built anything I can't throw away.  Perfection is the journey.    Mac

Reply:One drawback to this idea is draining the water from the tank. My compressor has two tanks and two drain valves. If i got another compressor i would have 4 valves to drain and if i add another tank that would be 5 valves.Lincoln Pro MIG 180Chicago electric 225 ArcHarris oxy fuelEveryone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Reply:IMHO,, the specs are being mis-read,,The amperage needed to produce 200psi @ over 5CFM would be WAY beyond the typical 115 volt outlet,,( the compressor MIGHT produce 200psi,,, OR 5cfm,, but, not both at the same time)(The compressor might take a half hour to pump up to 200psi,, but,, it will get there eventually!! LOL!!)THEN two of them running would double the amperage. You might need 40 amps or more to get 10CFM @ 200psi,,Now, some place like HF would list specs like that,, but, simply because of the language barrier of the company printing the box. Also, synchronizing the two compressors would be difficult, the unit would need to be rewired so that one pressure switch controls both compressors.otherwise, one compressor would run, not allowing the other compressor to drop below the cut-in pressure.

Reply:Oscar has posed "the" question, what is it you think you need all this compressed air for. I'll pose another, is your compressor supplying 5.1 CFM @ 90 psi or is it compressing 5.1 cfm @ atmospheric pressure to 90 psi?---Meltedmetal

Reply:The 200 psi same compressor at 5cfm is great for filling tires. But if change the pulley on motor to 100psi the cfm almost double. My old compressor used 60 gal tank The motor pulley was set at 100psi and would give over 15cfm all day long. Dave

So, what’s the difference? As a measurement, cfm will be a smaller number than scfm, because cfm values are taken under pressure (typically 90 psi), so the air volume is small. To calculate scfm, the air is expanded to a standard condition to take into account the variables of pressure, temperature and humidity: 14.7 psia (0 psig), 68 degrees Fahrenheit at 36 percent relative humidity. As a result, scfm values are larger. Campbell Hausfeld typically uses cfm values when talking about air compressors and scfm values when talking about air tools.

Reply:two compressors equals twice the noise. Why not just get an appropriately sized compressor for the job? I would get a quincy 3.5 HP or 5 HP and call it good.https://www.aircompressorsdirect.com...or/p12330.htmlhttps://www.aircompressorsdirect.com...ssor/p855.htmlMiller Multimatic 255

Reply:I ran my air tools and everything for years off a 3 HP Campbell Hausfeld with a 20 gallon tank... but that being said, the last pump I bought was no where as efficient as the ones I started with in 1985. I painted cars with it using syphon feed guns... if you were using a lot of air, sometimes you had to wait, but it worked out well. I can't say I've regretted buying my 5 HP 2 stage Ingorsol/Rand with the 80 gal. tank though... lots of dry air is a big plus in the shop.250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes

Reply:Air tools are typically rated for 90 psi, I worked in a sulphuric acid plant & we had a large 3 stage compressor that put out 500 psi( on a great day), it was also nearly impossible to keep third stage valves in, every performance enhancement comes at a cost. I think the third stage on that compressor was over 8 inch bore.., but it was an industrial compressor, reallyt industrial.IMPEACH BIDEN!NRA LIFE MEMBERUNITWELD 175 AMP 3 IN1 DCMIDSTATES 300 AMP AC MACHINEGOD HELP AMERICA!"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
Reply:The guy that helped me get the seized Allis home had his compressor on his truck set to something like 200+ psi.  I guess they do it all the time for filling big tires fast.  Filled my tire in just a few minutes.  There's some decent guys in the oil patch.  K'kins works with some of the best.
